At the end of every month, we have a random drawing and award a brand new iPad Air to one lucky winner and GOLD memberships to 10 other winners. This Month's Kicker

The local casino has a bank of 12 multi-game machines that are tied to a mystery progressive that must hit by $1199, and on a recent visit the progressive was at $1170 and climbing at a steady pace. I figured the progressive had to go out soon, and decided to sit down at an available machine and play some video poker.

I play quarters, and settled on the Bonus Poker Deluxe game. It was a good thing I chose that as I hit quad queens within about ten hands for $100, and now had some ammo to go firing away at the "must hit by" mystery progressive.

I managed to hit about five other quads over the course of the session for $100 each, including one dealt quad, and was pretty much guaranteed to be up money even if I didn't hit that mystery progressive.

While the meter kept moving, it seemed like it was taking forever! $1175, $1180, $1185... I was at the point where I just wanted someone to hit it so I could go home. ...and then, I held three high diamonds and the other two popped in for a royal flush for $1,000! Well, that was nice! It printed a ticket for $1,000, I took a quick picture, and kept hammering away at the game. ...and then...

No, still not the progressive. 16 minutes after I hit the royal flush, I was dealt a flush that was four-to-the-royal. I laughed because I knew there was no way, but had to go for it anyway, threw away the non-royal spade, and you probably already know where this story is going. Another royal flush for another $1,000!

I laughed out loud for about ten seconds, took the new $1,000 ticket it printed, took a quick picture, and kept hammering away. Finally someone else won the mystery progressive for around $1191, I hit "cash out" with $320 on the meter (of a $120 investment, so +$200 there, plus the $2,000), and left the casino a very happy camper.
