How Long Has VP Been Declining?

Post by rayj »

I'm no VP high roller, but I remember being approached by casino hosts quite often when I visited Vegas (many years ago). I'd get coupons for free buffet's, even show tickets every now an then.

Since I am a Florida resident, I mostly visit the Indian casinos, and of course, there is no such thing
as a Casino host in the Seminole casinos.

We often go to Biloxi. It's the same thing.... But I noticed you have to be a high roller to get any attention there.

Isn't it us .25/.50/1.00 players that are making these casino's rich? At least that's what I thought?

I don't think the issue you described is necessarily restricted to video poker.

Over the last 25 years or so, the industry has gradually adjusted rewards to recognize theoretical hold.

Originally, all machine games received the same benefits. If you played $10k coin-in, your rewards would total ~$150 for any game.

Today, some casinos have gone just about totally theoretical. Now they give maybe 30% of theo. So a $10k slot player will enjoy $300 in rewards, while a full-pay vp player receives $15.

It's probably true that the industry has lately cut back on overall rewards, but if you look at other forums such as VMB, slot players continue to collect very large incentives.

I'm not talking about player rewards. I'm talking about a casino host approaching you as you play.

I once asked a host how they decide which players to approach. She said she goes in alphabetical order.

Maybe they haven't gotten to the Js yet.

That's about as "logical'" as many other casino practices.

I do know that the casino hosts at Harrah's Joliet are not there nearly as much as they were in the past. I used to get "greeted" by a casino host within minutes of inserting my players card into a machine but I cannot remember the last time a casino host came by to say hi. Then again, I have cut back how often I go. I don't even think there are any casino hosts on property after 10:00 pm.

I know at my local casino in Columbus the paytables are so bad on the machines its like they either wanna fleece you or they don't want you playing at all - and forget about a host coming up to you if you're at a VP machine - lol although they are all curiously right by the Promotions area.

I have been playing VP for awhile. The good pay table machines are declining for sure.
