Atlantis, Bahamas

Post by dfs »

We're going to Atlantis in the Bahamas for our anniversary.  We've never been there before.  Has anyone gone there?  Is it a good place to gamble?  Do they have many video poker machines and at what odds?  I'm particularly fond of the SuperXPay video poker (9/5, .25+), .01 Top Dollar slots and the Alien (.01, .05) slots.  How generous is the comp program?  I know you can use your room key as your gaming card and the web site says if you play 50 points+ per day you can get comps but does anyone know the dollar/point ratio?  I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who has been there recently.

I was at the Atlantis a couple of years ago and the video poker was horrible.
But Maybe they have updated since then.
Best of luck to you!

I was at the Atlantis in February. While I love the hotel and the pool areas, I really disliked the casino. I felt it was dark and I didn't have a good feeling when I was in it. They redid the casino and this was the first time I had seen it since it was redone. Played video poker but really didn't do anything there. I lost 300.00 in about an hour and never hit anything worth mentioning. But don't let this blurb stop you from having a great time. Did you get the meal plan? If you didn't, go to anthony's across the street for some good and reasonable bahamian food. Conch fritters and conch salad are great. If you have never had it, try it.

Playing video poker in the Bahamas, on cruise ships, or in any foreign country is like playing on-line or at any Indian casino across the US. The games are rigged, there is no verifiable regulation, and only those who have no real understanding of video poker will play in those venues. Enjoy the hotel because it is world class, but pretend there are no vp machines in the casino.

How are the machines rigged? I would be interested in knowing.  I can tell you that Holland American lines are the worst for vp. But I have won on Norwegian and Carnival. The only casino I did well in while visiting the Bahamas was at the Wyndam. But I did well in Portugal on vp, especially deuces wild. Went to a casino there every night and won every night. Only played for a short time because I couldn't take the smoke. Is your advice to never go to an Indian casino. I have been to several and have had no luck there. Especially the hard rock in Fla.  I did find 9/6 vp at the hard rock but had no luck.
