Magic City Casino [VP in SoFla]

Post by VPMiami »

Here is a basic rundown of video poker offered at Magic City Casino, Miami, FL. It is located less than 10 minutes due west of downtown Miami.  It's not in the most glamorous area of Miami, but it's a quick and easy trip from Miami International Airport (5 minutes) as well as South Beach (15 minutes). Magic City Casino is co-located with the old Flagler greyhound track. The casino operations opened in October 2009, so it's fairly new. In addition to live dog racing five days per week, the casino offers slots, video poker, video blackjack, simulcast wagering and a live poker room. The casino slot/VP room is one of the smaller ones in South Florida.  The main room is on the second floor and has about 700 total slot machines.  Video poker is located in a single long bank of machines on the back wall (go left from the main entrance).  About 20 machines ranging from $0.05 to $0.25.  There are also half a dozen machines in the VIP/blackjack lounge, multi-denomination from $1 to $5.  All indoor areas are smoke-free. 1.  Video poker pay tables here are typical of South Florida... not all that great.  For example, from my most recent visit, Deuces Wild with 5 coins in paid:    $0.05 and $0.10: 1 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 13 - 16 - 25 - 200 - 4000 (96.77%)    $0.25:  1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 9 - 12 - 20 - 200 - 4000 (97.06%) The pay tables on the $1, $2 and $5 machines are marginally better.  A quick glance showed a handful of games with an expected payout of better than 98.5%. 2.  The slot club is slightly less stingy than others in the area.  Video poker requires $12.50 coin-in to earn 1 players club point (compared to $20 per point in other casinos).  They are constantly advertising bonuses and offers so it pays to check their promo calendar.  The points required to move up to the next level in the players club is more realistic than other local places I've seen. 3.  The casino is at the edge of the "Little Havana" (Calle Ocho) area of Miami.  Don't be surprised if Spanish is the predominate language that you hear spoken here. 4.  Personal experience shows that the casino is busiest when live racing is taking place.  Even at the busiest times, I've never had a problem finding a VP machine to play at. 5.  My major complaint about this place is that it seems like the casino is set up for people who are deaf.  The video poker area is next to a bunch of animated video slots and it seems as if they've got the volume on every one of them turned up to the max.  Usually I can tune out a casino's background noise, but here, I have to take a break after an hour to regain my ability to concentrate. For those who are looking for a place that convenient to downtown Miami and South Beach, this is the closest location.  The VP payouts are no worse than most other places down here.  The casino is small, but still comfortable and well-lit with plenty of free parking.  This is the place I visit most since it's closest to where I live.  If you like the variety of having slots, live racing and live poker all at one place, Magic City fits the bill. - D -

Despite the pay tables, the machines at Magic City do hit and pay.  Most recent visit, popped a $20 into a nickel Deuces Wild.  Over the course of about an hour, got down to $4.50 remaining then the machine started showing me some love and ground back up to even.  Was dealt 3 spade to the royal and drew the other two.  Almost fell out of my seat. Yay!
