Caesar's Windsor 9/30 to 10/04 Trip Report

Having never been to Windsor before, we had no idea what to expect when we decided to take our 7-Star trip here. It ended up being a very enjoyable trip even though there were no hand pays or monster hands to remember Windsor by. With no free play to work with, we ended up the trip less than $500 in the hole. Part of our success or lack of success, depending on how you look at it, was because we gambled a lot less than we normally do.
Let me start by saying all of the employees at Caesar's Windsor that we dealt with were first class. They were a breath of fresh air compared to Caesar personnel we have dealt with in Vegas or Atlantic City for instance. We really enjoyed their diamond lounge. In addition to a buffet similar but not quite as elaborate as the DL's at Atlantic City, they had a separate menu that 7 star members could order off of.
All the meals we had at their restaurants were terrific. We had breakfast each morning at the Artist's Café. One night we had steak and lobster at their steakhouse ( Nero's). We also tried their buffet one night. Although it was not Caesar's Bachannal, it was really quite good. All the food was reasonably priced. We only used about $200 of our $500 7 Star allowance on food. We used the rest of it at the gift shop. My wife found a purse she could not live without. I found a wallet that, even though I have been needing a new one for a while, would not have been willing to pay $42 for. It was use it or lose it so we made sure we spent all of it.
One of the nice surprises of our trip was our airfare. On a 7 star trip, CET allows $1200 for airfare. My wife worked with our host at Windsor and we were able to get 1st class roundtrip airfare from where we live for just over $1200. They even paid the difference. This really added a lot of extra relaxation and value to our trip.
Upon arrival at Detroit we were met by a driver who helped us across the border to Caesar's Windsor. It wasn't a limo stocked with alcohol like we get when we go to Tahoe, but it was a comfortable and short ride and the trip across the Canadian border was uneventful. After stopping by the duty free store to purchase beer and alcohol we checked into our room.
Another pleasant surprise. They gave us an executive suite in the Augustus tower. It was on the 25th floor with a beautiful view across the Detroit River. Our room was a little over 2000 sq. ft. It had a fireplace, wet bar, 2 bathrooms with separate oversized shower and Jacuzzi tub. The bedding and pillows were very comfortable. Everything about our room met or exceeded our expectations. After unpacking we headed to the casino.
Although the Casino was massive and impressive in a lot of ways we were disappointed. If you like table games or penny machines, Caesar's Windsor would be a perfect fit. It did not have the selection of $1 and $5 machines that my wife likes to play. For me, even though they do have a multitude of video poker machines, they did not have any with good pay tables. The best JOB I could find was 8/5. I could find no BP anywhere. The best DDB I could find was 9/5. We normally gamble 6 to 8 hours per day on a trip. Because they lacked the type of machines we really get excited about playing, we did not play nearly as much as we normally would.
We did do a lot of walking. Windsor is a great place is you like to walk. We did a tour of the Canadian Club facility. We watched several movies. For us this was more like a vacation than a gambling trip. The trip went by fast. The last night we saw Lionel Richie in concert. What an amazing entertainer!
