Casino Hosts ?

Post by paco13 »

I have had host services available to me at most of the casinos I play but have never used them. Recently been thinking maybe I should. So the other day a host from Bally's calls me out of the blue and asks me to call him before my next visit so he can handle everything for me. He also said he would arrange for $200 free play for me on my next visit. I am pretty much an independent guy who does my own thing, my own way, on my own off the wall times.
My questions are, How does the guest/host relationship normally work? What is the norm when it comes to tips? Are they expected? I don't want to over tip and spend precious VP BR but I don't want to under tip and insult the guy and possibly ruin what could be a beneficial service to me. Does any one here use a host? What sorts of things have they helped you with?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Excellent question paco. I also have many things to learn on this subject i.e, what is a reasonable expectation for comp's, perk's,premium play, mailers, for different levels of play? I have never had a host turn down a request, which makes me wonder if i might not be aggressive enough in this area. Have similar tendencies to your's, independent, in my own zone, focused, etc.... I also take a very competitive nature into the game. The casino is not my friend, since their objective is exactly the opposite from mine, although i never express this attitude openly of course. So any help in trying to "take e'm for all it's worth" would be appreciated. Hope this thread can bring out the knowledge we, and many others seek.

they can be v helpful in a number of ways. Some say they cant take tips but if u shake hands and have a 20 spot to palm them or a Benji you will be amazed at the results! fold the bill so any camera will not see it.money still talks a little!!

Posting the same question multiple times is unlikely to generate a response any faster.

I would NEVER a Host CA$H. Most would be offended IMHO. That said, in the old days a nice scarf for the ladies, or a tie for the gentlemen. Today, a gift card to a decent restaurant, Costco, Amazon, or department store, concealed in a Thank You greeting card seems to WIN the day for me.

Thanks for the responses so far. The gift idea does seem more appropriate. Glad I asked and avoided offending someone. I could see the handshake pass being more useful if I were to ask for something maybe a little beyond the normal assistance. I hope to be able to return to AC before the Summer is over. I will give it a shot and see how it goes. The main thing I hope he could help me with for starters is having a room ready for me when I arrive or at least shortly after. I still get those offers for air transportation to AC and would like to try it sometime so there's something else I could use assistance with setting up when the time comes.
Anyone else have advice or examples of things they have been helped with or offered that they couldn't do/get w/o a host. Please share.
Do you think a host could arrange for my boss to give me some time off with pay so I could head down to AC sooner? Or help me sell my house? Just kidding. I think. Maybe.

:D The host I have at the Borgata absolutely refuse's to take a tip. When I first started to use him. He told me I have seen more host get fired for taking tips. I have done the cash in the palm trick when shaking hands with a host I had in LV.
When I want to book a room, or ask for a comp for a dinner at a restaurant I'll send him an E-Mail asking for that request. I'll also ask him for late check-out. That way I don't have to check-out at the Borgata's 11 o'clock check-out time. See if your casino offer a late check-out. Then ask your host if he/she can provide that service.
I have had friends come down to Borgata and I treated them to the buffet. My host told me to charge it the room and he would take it off my bill.
A host can also provide show tickets.
