The Deuce is the current double decker bus that runs continuously up and down the strip and offers free transfers: Decatur Blvd, Boulder Hwy, Eastern Ave, Nellis Blvd, Flamingo Rd and Sahara. $3 per ride or $1.50 for disabled. $7. gets you 24 hrs access to The Deuce. Ask for a schedule when you board the bus to help you locate transfers. They named it The Deuce because originally it cost $2, ran between the two areas of the Strip and down town and is a double decker. ie: We transfered at NY and took The Deuce on Tropicana to Orleans.The Deuce began 10-27-2005. Unfortunately, everywhere you go these days you pretty much have to have your guard up and be alert. Years ago, someone had my husband's wallet half way out of his pocket as we were about to descend a packed strip bus. Hubby was trying to help me get off the bus because I had a cast removed early from a broken leg, to make the trip.
A local school teacher knew to watch his wallet when he went to Vegas and still had it stolen.
You might consider stashing $ and driver's license elsewhere than in purse or wallet. You could not even get those comped buffets without showing that driver's license.
Red Rock has a bowling alley and a 16 screen movie theater, pool and several restaurants! K, it's out "in the sticks" (Okie's words),  but pretty much self contained.

When I play downtown the casino I prefer are Main Street Station and El Cortez.

How long has it been since you have rode the Deuce?  The signs still say $3 but we had to pay $5 a piece when we went in August.

Thanks for correction, spxChrome! I checked Wikipedia this morning before posting and read $3. It was actually $2 and $5 for the 24 hr pass when we rode it. You're right, if in a hurry to get somewhere, consider another mode of transportation. Still beats the cab rates and provides more of a buffer for an accident! We know how cab drivers maneuver in Vegas traffic including passing on the right shoulder on the X way to the airport when we had plenty of time to catch our plane! On more recent trips to Vegas we have walked a lot and hopped free shuttles. We used to fly into Phoenix for a few weeks and rent a car. Our rental sat in parking structures during our Vegas stay. We now fly into Vegas and skip the rental car. We catch a shuttle to our hotel and take a cab back to the airport for convenience.

If youre after the best pay tables when you visit vegas, a car is essential. We map quest and print directions to and from multiple properties that we wish to go.  A car may not be for everybody but I will never again put my life in the hands of them cabbies. Theyre nuts. The deuce is ok for your first couple of times down, (site seeing).  All depends on how you want to spend your time. cars are cheap to rent
Downtown has  decent vp = 4 queens, mainstreet, elcortez although elcortez can be a little scary at night=imo

Nobody has mentioned the California which has 10/7 DB in 25/50/1.00.

As Marie said, you always have to be careful. I've taken to putting my wallet inside my sock on the inside of my ankle when I'm want to take extra precautions, ain't much money but by the time you add AARP card, insurance cards, credit cards, driver's license, etc. it can be pretty thick. I've found the inside the sock works really well and saves the rear end for sitting at the machines.

RR is all by itself. There is a really nice mall across the parking lot and street. We tired of the Strip years ago but some of the family still like it so when they stay, they stay on the Strip. When we need the Strip area we stay at the Palms for the 100% returns and it close enough to take the Harrah's shuttle from across the street to the Strip.

Thanks Larry! I'm leaving in a few hours for a stay at RR.  Hope the VP gods/godesses are with me on this trip.

I like to play 5 line Multiplay and I change denominations a lot. If my bankroll is flush I'm at Palms, If it's low (like now) I'm at the California or Ellis Island.

The deuce bus is an ok way to get from the strip to downtown and vica versa but the only bad part is that it takes 40 minutes to get from fremont st to bellagio because of traffic and the fact that the bus stops on every street corner. just fyi.
