Casinos near Georgia

There are no casinos in the state of Georgia, but I have seen advertising for those in Florida and North Carolina. I wondered if anyone has an opinion on which are the best and closest options for people in Georgia who wish to go to casino. Obviously, I am interested in Video Poker.

Thanks.

I don't have firsthand knowledge, but looking at the map, I think your best options from Atlanta would be the two North Carolina tribals managed by Harrah's. Vpfree2 has a recent update indicating 9/6 Jacks dollar denom at Cherokee Valley River.

You mentioned Florida, but I'm not aware of anything in the northern half. North Florida only has live poker rooms. The Jacksonville casino boats moved away.

Georgia has the Emerald Princess casino cruise near Jekyll Island. Cruises have a lot of drawbacks if your primary intent is to gamble.

Alabama is all class II, so any video poker there would be non-skill.

Dinghy is right. Cherokee River Valley would be the closest as the Florida casinos are too far South. If you can find 9/6 Jacks you better grab it because the VP is generally terrible. Casino is small but rooms are ok.

there was Rumor MGM was thinking of building a casino near Atlanta, I don't know how far they are with that. Many folks come up to Harrahs Cherokee from Georgia and you get full pay on a lot of the machines at the 5.00 denomination and higher

I understand Georgia's constitution prevents anything like that from happening. Casino gambling would require two-thirds agreement from the legislature, then voters would need to approve. Earliest possible referendum would be November 2024.

Yes. .50 TDBP is 9/6 in the smoking area, but 8/5 in the non-smoking area up stairs.
