you go out to eat and the absolute best bargain on the menu is something you do not like, but what you really like is overpriced by a couple of percent. i am as much a tight wad as anyone, but if i do not like something, i am not going to get buy it, just because it is a better value. same holds true for what game i choose to play. does everyone who advocates only playing the best odds machines always buy the best value car, clothes, homes, etc. i'll bet not. and, again, nearly every conversation results in someone mentioning paytables that are not available to many of us, unless we want to spend the time and money to go to some casino with better expected returns. with no guarantee that those better paytables will pay off.

If I ran a slot/VP floor though, one thing I would NEVER do. That is to make DDB the highest returning game for any denomination. You're just costing yourself money if you do, imo. Like you say, people will play 8/5 DDB and not care at all. [/QUOTE]Vman, I have occasionally thought about what I would do if I had the oppurtunity to make those decisions for a casino. In a place like Biloxi, I would think that offering better paytables for a number of games including DDB would work for the casino. Yes, people are willing to play bad paytables, but when I am in Biloxi I see a lot of VP machines sitting empty for long periods of time. And rows of slots that seem to go untouched. And even though the casino may theoretically be giving up an extra 2% or so in EV, that only applies to people who play perfectly. And in Biloxi, I doubt many do. Wouldn't it be better to get say 18 hours of play a day out of machines with a slightly smaller hold than only a few hours of play with a slightly higher hold?BTW, There are machines in Biloxi with 9/5 DDB at the quarter denomination and even 9/6 at the dollar denomination. The quarter machines are often full even at off peak hours. The dollar machines, not so much.Although there is an example that supports your position. There is one video poker bar in Biloxi that has two sides. One side has 9/5 DDB and the other 7/5 DDB (yikes!). The 9/5 side stays only slightly busier.Well, just my thoughts. And there is a new casino coming soon to the Biloxi area, I will be interested in seeing there approach.

The best DDB game I have seen in Biloxi is 8/5.  The Beau Rivage offers 7/5 in the high limit room and no one plays it.  I guess Biloxi thinks players will continue to have their wallets cleaned out and put up with it.  I think they would be better off not giving away rooms and flights and just offer better games, but I'm no casino manager.

You guys have a good point about the operational strategy of not setting DDB to be the best paying game. Recreational players love it, it does play out like a slot machine variance wise based on my own experiences as well. It is a smart consumer strategy as well, a product/service in high demand should never be on sale or even at a good deal.

The natural instinct of a slot player is to hope that a bonus round pays a lot. Thus I can understand it is natural to complain about not getting the kicker even after a quad. The difference between a 4 of a kind and 5 of a kind symbols are huge, I always get flustered when things line up but not all the way.

I've checked out reports on vpFREE again with regards to the Gulf Coast region, it also includes casinos in Florida as part of the region.

I think the people who play DDB at Hard Rock Tampa is going to love these new machines reported recently.

New: (4) $1, $2, $5 : 98.91% DW44, 98.98% DDB directly in front of credit office, on the end of a bank of slots.

New: (5) $1, $2, $5 : 98.98% DDB against the wall nearest the food court, Game Kinds

9 new 9-6 non-Nevada full pay DDB machines, but at $1 denomination and above. Still possible to have days where you lose hundreds in just an hour worth of play.

In Biloxi, Treasure Bay, IP, and Harrah's Gulf Coast reported to have 9-6 DDB at 50 cents and $1. Mr. Dawes is right having been to Biloxi recently.

Biloxi casinos are not Native American. Here in AZ, Fort McDowell has 10/6 DDB with a reduced SF (200 vs 250 for 5 coin max bet) at the 25 cent level.
