Blackhawk Colorado VP Report

Post by FloridaPhil »

Blackhawk Colorado is about an hour's drive west of the Denver Airport.  The easiest way to get there is to drive west on Highway 70 until you get to the Central City Parkway exit.  This takes you directly there without driving through Golden. Blackhawk and Central City are two old side by side mining towns up in the mountains.   The altitude is about 7500 feet, so take it easy until you get used to it.   Both cities are covered with casinos.  The largest and nicest casino resort is the Ameristar in Blackhawk.  This is a very nice hotel and we stay there on every visit.  All casinos in Colorado are smoke free.  VP in Blackhawk is a little better than what you will find in the South East.  Like all casinos you need to check the odds carefully as the better games are scattered among the bad.  With a little knowledge you can play VP in Blackhawk with a 1% house edge.  The norm is 2%.  For example, the best VP games are along the wall behind the table games.  These machines have 98.9% DW, 9/5 DDB & 8/5 BP.  They also have 9/6 Jacks but they reduce the royal to 2500 coins.  The best VP games are at the Monarch Casino at the end of the other casinos.  Walk to the third floor and in the back you will find 6 machines with NSU quarter deuces, 9/5 DDB and 9/6 Jacks from 50 cents and up.  The DDB progressive against the wall sometimes gets big enough to make it an attractive game.  For some reason the VP games at the Monarch seem to pay better for us.  The Lodge Casino across from the Ameristar has a bank of quarter 98.9% deuces wild and 9/5 DDB.  It quieter than the Ameristar, especially on weekends.  Colorado is a young person's town.  This means you will encounter loud drunk cow boys and girls.  This is annoying, but not in a bad way.  It does take some getting used to.If you want a vacation in a beautiful setting, good service and decent VP, we recommend Blackhawk.

Geez doris, lighten up. I'm surprised that you also didn't point out that cowboy is one word and not: cow boy.

We are planning a trip back to Blackhawk this July. We always stay at the Ameristar. Blackhawk is great and the scenery is fantastic. If you must have full pay video poker, skip Blackhawk and go to Vegas. The best odds in Blackhawk are about 99%. The Monarch has the best VP in Blackhawk.
