Want to go to Blackhawk, need advice

Post by jconifer7 »

Hi, I've been playing video poker on here for the past week and I was considering a day trip to Blackhawk to try out my strategies.  I was considering going to the Ameristar since they have eleven of the Super Times Pay machines which I'm convinced I like the best, but I also think maybe the Monarch casino would be a better place for me since I'm only in it to play not stay if you know what I mean.I was looking at screen grabs of Super Star Poker which you can't play on this site, I notice those machines have Super Times Pay and Ultimate X on them https://www.slotmachineoasis.com/wp-con ... 210529.JPG and that machine is at Monarch, but I was also wondering if the casinos program the games for us to play only a certain minimum bet like 25 cents which would amount to only 120 credits on $30 Since this is a first time I don't want to blow off too much and was thinking that playing a machine with a 5 or 10 cent bet would at least assure a longer play time and if I get a good hand, well then hooray, I leave with more money than I had, but if I can succeed with at least doubling my money and then some that will make me feel just as good.  If nothing else, I consider it practice for Reno which I'll be going to at the beginning of June.

We play in Blackhawk often.  The best odds in Blackhawk by far are at the Monarch.  The classic games are 5 coin max bet.  We don't play any of the bonus games you described, so I can't comment on your question.   The last time I was there a guy across from me hit a hand pay on a 100 play deuces wild game.  I talked with him a while and he told me he felt 100 play deuces at the Monarach was one of the best games in Blackhawk.  Take a look and see for yourself. You definitely want to stay at the Ameristar.  The rooms are nice and the rates are low, especially during the week.  Once you have a track record, comped rooms are a real possibility.   There are a number of casinos in the Blackhawk Central City area.  Have fun!Reno is a different VP animal all together.  We actually enjoy Reno more than Vegas.  We're not into dance clubs or shows and Reno is much more laid back.   The place to play in Reno is the Peppermill.

Thanks Phil, yeah classic video poker would be fun too depending on what I can budget for when I'm there, I can easily master deuces wild, I have been training myself on Jacks or Better since that usually has a greater payout with or without bonuses.  I don't know if I would ever play a 50 or 100 play game and I don't think I would go any higher than five hands on Ultimate X and others, though I would do ten hand on Super Times Pay since that game does have a lower max bet.As for Reno, the main reason I'm going is that most of my friends are going to be at the Grand Sierra for the furry convention that will be taking place, I myself will likely be sleeping at a non-casino hotel to save on money but most of my time will be at the Grand Sierra so I've been kind of fooling around with the games that will be available there.

I first went to Reno years ago on a business convention myself.   It's a gambler's town for sure.   My wife thinks it's a little seedy, but I love it.  If you get a chance, drive out to Lake Tahoe.  They have a couple of casinos right on the lake.  It's a beautiful drive that you would enjoy.  There are very few low denomination positive VP games outside of Vegas these days.  Our goal is not to make money at casino gambling, it's to have as much fun for our money as possible.  By the way,  when you are in Blackhawk walk down to the Monarch and go to the third floor.  In the back you will find 6 VP machines in a group.  These machines have the best odds in the area.   There is also a group of DDB machines with a quarter progressive that can get quite high.  The last time we were there a player was dealt one for $2K.
