Re: slots

Post by MikeA »

I certainly won't argue the point with skill at slots.

But a couple of points. It would seem to me that unless "doubling" a bet could be proven to be weighted toward "win" or "lose" then it would make no difference whether you doubled or not...6 one way and a half dozen the other. Flip a coin...double or nothing.

Sort of the same thing with "Lock". Unless you can use reflex skills to see a wheel icon in time to hit the stop or lock button, there still would be no skill involved so it wouldn't make any difference whether you Locked or not.

We had those general types of machines (not on all fours but similar) in Oklahoma. The were all tied to some BINGO game and once you hit spin, you could either hit "DAUB" to stop it or just let the machine sing and blink and finally quit spinning on its own. You could not anticipate what you would "lock" on when you hit the "Daub". The Daub button had about the same influence on the outcome as did rubbing the screen with the palm of your hand, or slapping the sides. Plenty of people did it. And some of them claimed they won because they slapped the machine. Personally, I favor a green onyx frog.

Mike  You are confused between two types of machines. The ones that pokherguy is speaking of are in Cherokee. They are affectionately called "Lock&Roll".  The State of NC required that only games of "skill" be offered. The machines he speaks to have you hold symbols from your first spin and then spin again. The "skill" comes from knowing the odds of getting like symbols. Example, first spin, Double Diamond, single bar, double bar, red seven. The odds of getting another bar are greater then getting two more red sevens.
The machines you are talking about are machines that give you the ability to stop the spin. Stopping the spin has nothing to do with the results you will get. They only allow you to play faster. The end result is like any other slot, chosen when you hit the spin button.
Clear as mud??

Yep. Completely understood Faygo. You do understand the machines I described. I did not understand the ones you describe. I've never seen one of them.

"LOck & Roll" slot machines are unique to Cherokee.  I tried to find a picture on the Harrahs Cherokee website, but there wern't any good photos. Googled lock & roll and found that some race tracks in Arkansa have these machines. Also, Wekipedia notes that Cherokee is phasing out some of the lock & roll slots and replacing them with the new Bizillion line machines. You must use your players card, which then gives you a second shot at a win in a virtual raffle? Somehow that is being allowed as skill?

Remember that some slot machines require 2 credits and some 3 (or more credits) so that could account for the reason why some pay more for triple bars.

from what i read over the years i was a stricly slots subscriber, the machines with the lower payouts (the one that require less credits) will hit smaller hits more frequently than the higher paying jackpots that will hit less frequently.

either way, slots are a losing proposition in the long-run.

By the way, I have read over the years that you should ask the slot attendants which machines have been paying out recently. once at the Stardust, i asked a few of them but they would say things like "i don't know, if i knew i would be playing them." well, i finally found one guy nice enough to tell me and i put in 40 bucks and cashed out with $180 or so in about 3 minutes. gave the guy a $5 tip. They may not know the "winning" machine but since they work on the slot floor all day, they know what machines have been hitting a lot recently. always worth a shot to ask.
