Blackjack of course.

Everyone has to enjoy blackjack. It's so simple with everything in front of you.

LOL....I'm trying to come up with a smart reply to that statement!  Joking of course.  But in reality, Blackjack is as complex as you wish to make it!  I have been playing 21 for years and am just now returning to VP.  I'm not sure which I'd say I prefer.  I guess BJ if I can find a table with acceptable rules and other considerations for which this is probably not the forum for amplification

Awhh, you get used to getting yelled at.  There are a lot of players out there that always make the accepted VOODOO play and get their panties in a twich when someone else isn't able to use ESP to find out what the dealer has in the hole.  And if you encounter someone like that, it's a pretty good bet that if you split 10's, they'll blow up and leave!   No, the only thing about Blackjack that upsets me is the deteriorating table rules and increasing table minimums.

I actually find the people who get upset at tables amusing.  In most cases, they do not understand the game as well as most.  I've studied and studied the game of BJ and as a "strategy" player, there are no actual decisions to make.  All of the decisions have already been made for you using the math.  What seems to upset the players who do get upset is that you "stole" their card.  In reality, they don't understand the game beyond the obvious.  What does amaze me is the person who will sit down at a $50 or $100 table with the most minimal BJ skills.  Those are the tables I'll walk away from.  The "yellers", just look them right in the eye and tell them it's your money and you'll play the game any way you want.

I was playing nickel Double Deck at the Plaza (downtown Vegas) a couple of years ago.  My bets were minimum at the time and I was playing straight BS (not advantage play).  A guy sitting before me at the table was making large wagers.  Any time I would get a stiff when he had a pretty good hand and the dealer had a 8 or less, this guy would buy my hand from me!  He didn't want me to hit and take the card he though might bust the dealer.  Stupid because he pretty much had to presume that the dealer had a 10 down and wouldnt' be hitting anyway.

After he had bought  several of my $5 bets, I was dealt a pair of 8's and the dealer turned a 6.  I was going to split them for $5 on each hand and pray for a double down.  This guy was over the edge!  I think he had a couple of greens bet and doubled with an eleven.  He paid me $20 NOT to take a hit!  Granted, I might have gotten a double opportunity, but I also might have lost my butt.....I took his offer.  I don't even remember how the hand played out...it didn't matter in the least to me at the time.

You will encounter a lot of strange attitudes when you sit at a table.  And, you are right....it is terribly funny at times!  I just try to look stupid most of the time...not a hard task.  It's good cover.

Use to play BJ when table games got a lot more respect in the comp department, and when it was easy to find a decent game, and when there wasn't as much heat on BJ players. In the long run, a bad player at the table will help you as much as they hurt you. It all averages out in the long run.

You got all that right Foolery!  Not only are comps getting more difficult to get at tables (especially BJ!) the game rules are going to pot along with VP pay tables!  Heck, 2 weeks ago in Vegas, I remember seeing 6:5 BJ on 6-deck shoe games!  I saw double-deck games where dealers were cutting off more than a full deck!

About the best $5 games I found was Slots-o-Fun.  DD where dealer stands on soft 17 and where they give 70 to 75% pen.

One thing that hasn't changed though...there are still just as many people playing who have no concept of Basic Strategy as there ever was!

BJ tournaments have way of demonstrating that the best play is NOT always the one that wins. Two week ago I had the lead on the last hand and my only opponent (all others had lost) needed to hit 17 and get a 3 or 4 to have a chance. He got the 3 and beat me.

This week there were 3 of us down to the last 3 hands. Two of us were very close and the third guy threw in all his remaining chips. He was dealt BJ. The dealer hit to 21. Now, he was back in the hunt. He thew out a maximum bet and was dealt another BJ while the dealer hit to 20. Needless to say he walked away the winner.

Tournaments are a whole nuther game that only slightly resembles Blackjack when it comes to decisions.  Especially toward the end-game.  You are playing the players and not the dealer.  Long Shot gambles that you'd never make at a cash BJ table are common.

I lament with you over your two tournament losses when you made it so close to the end!  Better luck on your next one!
