Interesting....

The South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas has been given a license by the Nevada Gaming Commission to operate a real-money online poker website in the state. The commission also granted South Point a manufacturing license. "This is an incredible step forward. It's going to redefine gaming and what the state can do," said Lawrence Vaughan, chief operating officer of South Point Poker. Vaughan said he was confident that the casino would debut the website in October. Las Vegas Review-Journal

The nevada gaming commission can give the license, but federal law would probably trump it, right? I remember that being the case in California with regard to drug laws.

Is there a federal law against gaming?  I think it's up to each state to regulate what gaming to allow, if any.  I wonder how South Point can assure access only by Nevada residents.  Isn't this issue largely why poker for pay sites were taken down?  Interesting to watch how this all plays out.

In the tribe's gaming compact's online gaming is strictly forbidden. The state's would have a lot to lose in revenue from the tribe's if they broke those compact's

edog what do Native American tribal gaming compacts have to do with this topic? Are there any tribal gaming compacts in the state of Nevada? I ask this question simply because I do not know and you might.

Buff, as far as the law goes, apparently it is not against federal law for online gaming, but the banks are not allowed to fund it, i.e. using VISA, MASTER CARD. If you want to use your own money to fund gaming, it is between you and the gaming site. Keep in mind though, that if you win and they say, Sorry, we don't want to pay, you are up the creek. I used to play online quite a bit, and anything I won, they paid. I don't remember the name of the site, but it was really fun. It sure was easy to let it get out of hand though. Some states do have definitive laws against online gaming, but if you live in a state that says okey-dokey, go for it.
