Live Keno

Post by europa92118 »

Hi,allow me to introduce myself. Name is Pesach Kremen, as of Juny 16, 2013 I am the new "Crazy for Keno" columnist for Gaming Today (www.gamingtoday.com). I also am a frequent poster in the Yahoo keno group (www.groups.yahoo.com/group/keno) and I follow a fun approach to the game but always based on the math of the game.  For those of you who only like to play when the game returns 100% there are opportunities in live keno for returns in excess of 100%, some of which are mentioned in my columns. In addition, I can show that the loss rate at live keno is less than most casino games as one factor many ignore in their calculations and that is game speed. Since live keno is a slow leisurely game, your money lasts longer.  If you play $1 keno per ticket and there is a game about every 5" you spend $12 an hour.  The better tickets return 75% (strip many worse, downtown some better) thus the game will cost you about $3/hour.  if you have two beverages during that hour you are even.  If you allow for comps and mailers you are in the  black. Now of course if you spend a lot more per game the casino has the best of it  unless:You are playing a progressive that has gotten high enough to break a100% return. As I write this the 5 spot Mega Keno is returning close to 104% on the more liberal pay card and 99% ont he tighter pay card for the smaller pays.  Most of Northern NV has the better pay card where 4 of 5 pays $11.50, the Vegas strip has the inferior pay card (except The Excalibur) .  The ticket costs $1.50, and 3 of 5 on both pay cards pays $1.00, Four of 5 pays $5 n the poorer pay table and $11.50 on the better pay table. The jackpot for the 5 spot starts at $1100, a few minutes ago it was at $2100+ (www.megakeno.com). You an get ahead by playing tournaments as prize money is added and this makes the average  pay greater.  here are several casinos that do not charge anything for the tourney, you just buy in for a stated amount and keep all you win and if you place you get prize money as well A simple example assume buy in is $500 (Cal, Orleans) and the return averages 75%.  100 entries in the tourney. Prize fund $10,000, thus expected value from prize fund is $100 per person.  Thus from your $500 assume you average a return of $375 = 4100 from the prize fund = $475. Add in the small gift they give u, the comped rooms for the players  and some comped food and you have the best of it.You can also get ahead with match play coupons or similar loss leaders that are used. For example a casino might offer a free breakfast to those who play a 21 game ticket.  If the ticket  costs $21 and you are expected to lose about $5 but the breakfast if bought separately would be more you are ahead.  There are also casino specials where the return on the tickets runs in to the mid 80's to 90% return. the "Deano" rate at The D returns int he mid 80's, the $1.15 rate at The El Cortez returns in the mid 80's.  If you stick to playing just these rates, your regular offers and comps should bring you close to break even. Some casinos return more for the high roller ticket, such as The Orleans which has returns approaching 90% on their "SS" rate which you can get on $5, $10, $25 tickets.  The $5 special ticket returns in the low to mid 80's, the $10 on the mid to upper 80's (with no humidity) and some of the $25 tickets approach 90% return (with a chance of rain).  When you play at these higher levels comped meals and rooms are the norm at the better casinos.  Simlar to balckjack and Video Poker the comp rate is often based on the average house ege of al tickets that the casino uses and does not give you less just because you played a lower PC ticket. For those of you who like 20 card keno I will be posting to the group and writing a column showing how you can set up your tickets similar to doing a "way" ticket at live keno. Thanks, PK, your "Crazy for Keno" columnist.
