I like casinos and I like people who like casinos, but if that's your reaction to what sounds like an entirely unpleasant place to play maybe you need to consider professional help for problem gambling...just sayin'.

The casino is very nice with an outlet mall attached and is very well maintained and has a good variety of the latest slot games.

Im guessing you are referring to the busloads of mostly Asians who come in all day long from Brooklyn (not that I think Asians are low lifes but a lot of the crowd off these busses do seem like poor people).

The scam, which the Sands has cracked down on, are free play vouchers given to these passengers to use at the casino once they step off the bus. The passengers would then sell the vouchers to actual players, hang out in the Casino or the area until the next bus back to Brooklyn, pocketing the cash minus bus fare and driver tip. There are some who do nothing all day but ride the bus back and forth sometimes more than once a day, and basically making a living by sitting on a bus all day. Im guessing you could pocket $50-60 a day doing this, maybe even a little more if you can get three rides.

There were some slight problems in the local area, including reports of these "bus people" stealing food from a local garden, but from what I have seen they just loiter until they can get the next bus back. Ive also heard complaints about Asians being "pushy" but Ive been to China and Asian culture simply has different views on personal space, lines, and physical contact then we do in the West. This might be what you are referring to as getting run over.

Now, you'd think the Sands was being magnanimous to the community and maybe trying to prevent old poor immigrants from having to sit on a bus all day to make a living, and that is why they cracked down.

No, what was happening IIRC is the casino was actually losing money on some of the games when the players figured they could get a edge on certain machines thanks to the vouchers being sold at a discount; the Sands has since disallowed use of the vouchers on certain machines, but the practice still goes on.

Personally, I thought it was hilarious, Im always in favor of the little guy getting an edge on the casino, especially since it is created out of the casinos own exploitation.

More importantly, has anyone hit big at Sands? I would be curious to try the place out once, at least.

first off, This is the SANDS in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, correct?? Secondly, HOW exactly did this "Scam" actually Work so that people were able to eke out a small profit?    I mean, what was the BUS fare from Brooklyn, how much was the gaming voucher itself worth to the bus patron, and WHAT amount were the vouchers actually being sold by the Bus patrons to the Casino Patrons???      Unless the PRICING structure of  BUS  tickets and vouchers from New York to Pennsylvania casinos is RADICALLY different  than that typically seen in Bus stations that service AC, Vegas or RENO, I cannot fathom how such a SCAM would work.......even at a TINY profit!! Still, the typical patrons from Brooklyn in AC are pretty disparate on the GREYHOUND bus that actually does pickup/drop off service for the Brooklyn destination itself, same as the usual PORT AUTHORITY crowds & patron demographics, varied (although a majority are African American or Hispanic.......typically, when I take the BUS to A.C. from Springfiled, MASSACHUSETTS  or  HARTFORD CONNECTICUT, I travel first to the NYC  port authority, then hop on one of the regular, everyday Atlantic City routes which run ALL DAY every 45 minutes or so, from 7 am up to 11:30 PM to various AC casinos (except Golden Nugget or Borgata);   More often than not, when I am in line to board the NYC to AC bus (and vice versa on the return) ,  I tend to be one of the only caucasian patrons.....Keep in mind, in NYC port authority bus station, there are NUMEROUS bus lines and services that will take someone from NYC to AC, each with their own price and gaming incentive/voucher.....but they tend to all be very similar $$ wise! There was a time, up until 2012 or so, when it was absurdly easy to accumulate "free round trip vouchers, with the casino BONUS"  by simply making a certain number of "trips", or "STAYS", at AC casinos.......I used to earn a free round trip bus ticket with Gaming coupon at the TROPICANA-AC by staying & playing 8 days at the TROP.....from 2009 thru early 2012 i had actually accumulated 3 or 4 round trip tickets/voucher......these very easily could have been "SOLD" by an unscrupulous or desperate individual, both the BUS ride AND the Vouchers seperately!    I knew of, or witnessed several such transactions by one individual in particular who kind of "got his  jollies" by essentially "Sticking it to the casinos" whenever or however he could:Since a Round trip from NYC to AC casinos  usually runs around 35-40 bucks with a 25 dollar free slot play coupon, this individual "Sold" his free bus ride portions for around 20 bucks to people who were only interested in getting to AC itself, NOT the casinos (and for whom a NON casino fare ticket was usually far more than 20 bucks so they made out well.)    Then this guy would either USE the free play vouckers himself (By easing into a arriving BUS line at some casino)   or he would sell the 25 dollar game voucher for 13-15 bucks to someone ......   AC finally put a stop to all this by severely curtailing the issuance of these bus trips & coupons, and by now requiring ALL BUS arrivals at ALL casinos to have passengers REMAIN on the BUS itself before getting their bus gaming voucher redeemed by the Casino Greeter!

And one other non casino thing that popped up in this thread:Indeed, ASIAN culture is drastically different, with drastically different values, than Western (i.e. American or European) cultures/values....hence it is not uncommon for BOTH sides to view warily and suspiciously (even contemptuously) the other side.......this quite often leads to both inadvertent and intentional incidents of racism and racial prejudice/injustice.....Whenever I hear or read the term "LOW LIFE" and see it followed by any type of racial group or descriptor, I cringe......to me, a "LOW LIFE" is truly anyone who intentionally acts or commits acts that are inherently selfish and antisocial (i.e. crimes of various nature....)  it has nothing to do itself with Race or Place/strata (i.e. INCOME) in society.I say this with conviction because I have, myself, been the victim of a type of prejudice at the hands of Asians, but it has nothing to do with my race (white/caucasian).......Many Asian cultures & groups, notably Indians AND Chinese, Japanese and KOREAN,  are very uncomfortable with, and even contemptuous of people with Disabilities.......this is a CULTURAL issue which is tied into (somewhat) religious and philosophical beliefs;    Indians, with their Caste system and strong Hindu influenced views and values, CAN look at someone with an obvious defect or disability and conclude or deduce that it is KARMA for some wrong committed in a previous life, or is the result of a curse or simply indicative of one's current Station in life;   Oriental (CHinese, Korean & Japanese) tend to view disabilities as a flaw or weakness, and thus a potential threat to society and the social order and stability;   Handicapped individuals (particularly children born with certain defects) can be seen as a "DRAIN" on precious resources....thus their lot in life is a lot harder than in Western cultures.     There are other issues and views regarding this type of situation in Asian/Oriental cultures.....Despite this, i feel no animosity or need to get back at such people or cultures, and furthermore it has ALSO been my experience that the MAJORITY of Indians (dots, not feathers) and Asian/Oriental people have treated me exactly how I wish to be treated (or how I deserved  in a few instances, lol.)    And other Asian Cultures, particularly Vietnamese and Phillipino, actually have been very supportive and NICE to me when I have spent extended time with such people/cultures.  Maybe it has something to do with the wars (WWII  and Vietnam) lol, I dunno.......
