Re: Session Timeout

Post by shadowman »

Well, I just hung IE7 now. I was playing fast trying to recreate the timeout problem when the hang occurred. Probably a co-incidence but it hung just a little while after I was dealt 3 deuces hitting 4 of them for over 4K credits. I just checked and it appears the credits made it to the server so nothing was lost this time.

Also, I have had the "page not found" error in the past (last night at the casino for example) for the scores window when I'm connected using a slowwwwwwwwer connection type. If I keep playing I will end up with a timeout eventually.

Yes, if you get a page not found error, it means your internet connection has been lost and there is little that can be done about that.  There is the rare occasion (if I have to reboot the server) that the site would actually be down but 98% of the time it means your connection needs to be reset.  Most connections will do this automatically and sometimes it might not even be noticed if it comes back before the next page load.  Because these games are pushing so much data back and forth real-time, it's far more noticeable than during casual web browsing.

Can I use one of those bendy straws? Narf!

If faygo and shadowman are still having this problem, you can add me to the list (the 421 error).  Happened a couple of times last night, and a few times this morning.  I was going to ask you two - do you play with an input device (mouse) or the keyboard?  In my case I use a trackball, which should be somewhat slower.

First time it's happened to me, including the original beta site.  Hope I don't get the faygo error message, since I'm too old to be standing on my head.  Well, I guess it would depend on the beverage...

Since my connection has become a very slow due to poor cell phone connectivity I timeout EVERY time I try to use 50 play. Usually after 5 minutes or less. I think you need a better scheme for handling this situation. You either need to cache more results or halt play until the communications catches up.

This isn't a fix, but what I've been doing is pausing after every 4-5 hands until I see the next score update.  That's cut my timeout errors down.

I did that myself and it does work. However, I don't think we can expect everyone to understand what is happenning and pace themselves accordingly. Since our task as beta users is to break things, I have little motivation to find work arounds.

I haven't had a session timeout for quite a while. I am playing as fast as I can to try and induce it. (All together now, Break It, Break It, Break It)
I'm not a Computer expert by a long shot, but I see big issues headed this way when these games go live. If only 20% of the 77K+ members are playing a  lot of host capacity is going to be needed.
Of course I don't know how many Beta users there are now?
My guess not very many as I see the same few names playing all the time.
I hope I'm all wet on this.
