Casino Table games to avoid....

Post by DaBurglar »

Any knowledgable casino patron knows that some table games on the floor, notably Blackjack, Craps and Baccarat, offer just about the BEST odds for any given player to both actually WIN something, or at least maintain a good portion of their bankroll without losing it all......This presupposes of course, proper game selection and attention to details (not all BLACKJACK tables are the same obviously), as well as proper bankroll management and behavior.Other table games, however, tend to be giant drains, even downright ripoffs, for players who knowingly or otherwise sit down to play them......Spanish 21 is awful, and games like Caribbean Stud, Caribbean Holdem & Caribbean draw (with their tantalizing Progressives) are notorious bankroll busters......Likewise, "LET IT RIDE"  (LET IT END!)  is a total farce for a serious gambler intent on making a run or making his bankroll last. Has anyone out there actually had recent success at ANY of the games I mentioned above (the good or the bad games)?    Either on my next trip to AC (july 20 thru ??) , or to Vegas (probably in Late September or Early October) after NFL season begins, I intend on devoting a portion of my allotted bankroll for the trip for Blackjack and perhaps, CRAPS.......

One halfway decent craps half hour spell. I'm the contrarian who bets the dark side, and I often got hammered even though with the damn house. I cut the crap. Going nowhere. Nice to give my eyes a break from video screen duty. I can take a drink to a lounge for optimal bankroll management.

I didn't see: Rock, Paper, Scissors or Guess Which Hand or Think of a Number on the original poster's list of casino games to avoid.

I didn't see: Rock, Paper, Scissors or Guess Which Hand or Think of a Number on the original poster's list of casino games to avoid.I see someone really payed attention during Vegas Vacation  when it was in theaters back in 1997.        Easily the worst of the National Lampoon "VACATION" series of movies, complete with Wayne Newton as a full on creepy  Satyr! I actually look upon that period (1995 thru 1999) as "Vegas' Golden age"  (Reno too) because casinos in Vegas, and Nevada as a whole, were right on the line in terms of the best balance overall between table games and slots (and most important, penny slots had NOT yet infested and overrun every casino in the city), and of the games that were there,  most offered the best odds, since like .... EVER!    I am speaking of single and double deck Blackjack everywhere with 3/2 for a Blackjack;   Craps with 10X, 20X and even 100X odds at certain Vegas Casinos;   Video Poker with Hundreds of games like 10/7 and 9/6 JOB everywhere (even the strip!), and even Bonus Poker and Double Bonus could be found with over 100% paytables throughout Vegas and Reno too;    And the slots back then were the best in terms of payback and the chance each player had to possibly win......in the SLOTS case, machines with the now ubiquitous (and infamous)  "VIRTUAL REEL" inside the machine had not proliferated to the extent that nearly EVERY machine had it inside.......this meant odds stayed within reasonable ranges on most slots machines (still did not mean a LOT of winning, but certainly MORE than what you see today with these absurd penny machines!)But the best thing about Vegas in the 4-5 years before the year 2000 was the city itself, and the rapid dynamic growth that was starting to really cook as casinos sprung up left and right, and many of today's more famous (or infamous), and biggest and best casinos came online on the mid to late 1990s:  New York, NY     Monte Carlo    Bellagio    Paris   Stratosphere  Venetian.         The city reached, in my opinion, the OPTIMUM level and balance of size and sprawl, with the perfect balance of OLD  with Brand NEW,      Truly, they should have STOPPED building new casinos after 2000......as nice as places like "M"  and Aria  and every WYNN property built after Bellagio truly are, it is these places which saturated Vegas and caused the traumatic recession of 2009 to hit Vegas much harder than it otherwise might have, and which even today make it more difficult than it needs to be for established Vegas Casinos to make money (which of course they do, but again, it is more competitive and difficult thanks to the sheer number of places that are there!)

I thought Quads pay 50 for 1, but still at least $15,000 payout if you had $100 on all three spots.

Gutsy move to Let it Ride on a non paying pair draw when you had 3 cards at those high stakes.

Hope you got back most of your money at those stakes. 1 in 4164 is not frequent.

Spanish 21 is one of, if not the, the best games offered in AC. Way better than the **** BJ they offer.
Its got different rules, some of which require studying, but a knowledgeable player can feast on the game.
If you sit down and use regular basic strategy, you'll be the meal. Use the correct SP21 strategy and you'll be the bear.

from the Wizard of Odds website.
I realize some of you think math is fuzzy but here is his take on the game

Introduction
Spanish 21 is a variation of blackjack, that in some cases is the best bet in the casino. In locations where the dealer stands on a soft 17, or redoubling is allowed, Spanish 21 may be a better bet than blackjack, depending on the specific blackjack rules. If you are looking for a change of pace from traditional blackjack but insist on a game with a low house edge, then you may find new excitement in Spanish 21.

A quote from Anthony Curtis:
“As is often the case in gambling, cursory investigation, erroneous assumptions, and limited information can lead to missed
opportunities. Such has been the case with Spanish 21.”
