Went to River City to play some live poker but it turns out they closed their poker room in April. Bah humbug! They told me to go up to Ameristar St. Charles. No thanks.

I am not sure if it has to deal with the River City casino scandal. It was the topic of this week's Gambling With an Edge show.

Absolutely does not. And I do feel bad for them because I'm doubting they have a previous criminal record. It's obviously fraud, but it was also the casino's fault as well.

But River City's poker room has been gradually dying for years before it actually closed. River City has also been fighting with Hollywood St. Louis for 2nd highest grossing casino in Missouri (13 total) for the last few years. They are a big success everywhere else.

Was there on Saturday and quite busy. Unlike the previous 2 trips there, neither of us hit a royal...was fun while it lasted.    

I'm not surprised the employee suggested Ameristar (since they are owned by the same company), but the closest poker room to downtown is Lumiere Place.

Wow  this thread blows my mind for several reasons....First, whitney Read:   I am glad that there finally is another LIVE POKER PLAYER posting on this forum!    What game(s) do you like to play?   Tournaments?    Are you successful?Second, I was unaware that the state of Missouri had 13 casinos in it......is that really true or did I misread something?      Third, I read the article about the couple and the alleged fraud/glitch they were involved with.......I totally do not understand how the glitch worked based on the article's description, especially where it says the transaction was "Voided" but they were able to download, and then cash out, credits they did not "earn".....?!?!       huh?     What is going on here?     was the casino putting free play on their players card that they did not earn. is that what is going on here?    If so, that is MORE the casino's fault than the players.....Either way, if whatever the glitch is due to a casino technical issue, then I do not think prison or even $100K bail is at all warranted.    These people obviously knew what they were doing was wrong, and should have reported the problem after the first couple of times, NOT thousands and thousands of transactions later.......but it was not their doing, or fault, that the opportunity presented itself.     Therefore, I think a more appropriate punishment would be like this:1)  Ban them for life from the casino(s) in Missouri2)  Force them to pay back as much of the money as possible without putting them on the street.....a payment plan is a good alternative here, something that cramps their style enough to actually be "punishment"  but not so severe that they cannot pay their rent/mortgage or medical bills,     3)  No jail time, that is not warranted here...VMAN is right, these people are NOT hardened criminals;   they are average people who frequent casinos, who probably have LOST their fair share over the years, who all of a sudden (through no DOING of their own) are presented with a strong temptation that might even (at first) have seemed "not all that wrong", like perhaps they deserved it after years of LOSING to the casino.    These people should (as punishment) be assigned some type of significant  community service or something else that BENEFITS the state they defrauded.That's my take on these so-called  "CRIMINALS"......hell, if PHIL IVEY, the well known poker guru  gets off scott free after his BS  Baccarat scam, where clearly he KNEW what was wrong and did not say a peep, you cannot judge these two average people that much more harshly!

+Bump......I'd really appreciate it if someone could actually explain the exact nature of this "Scam".....in other words, HOW did (does) this work, what the people did, with their cards and the machines!
