One Eyed Jacks

Post by Jenni24 »

Has anyone ever played one eyed Jacks before? They used to have them in Minnesota and they were still coin in coin out machines.

Played them a lot! Beast gaming in Minnesota......gone. Have tried and still hang good luck on new ones but pay tables were lowered.           Found a few in Laughlin, but they are probably there to cater to the Minnesota gamblers. Love the game...makes others boring.

If it's the same I'm thinking of, I think they had them at the Sands in Atlantic City. I knew nothing about strategy back then and remember winning a nice hit once and getting killed the next time.

That was my favorite game at Mohegan Sun until they yanked them many years ago. There was a bank of 2 cent machines, but they let you play up to 100 units. My Martingale clone killed those machines. The only time you could get them was in the middle of the night and even then they were hard to get. Very seldom did a player who had a long session on these machines and knew the strategy lose on them unless when they got ahead they went crazy and played max bet until their money was gone. The strategy is difficult to master. That was the only down side as far as I'm concerned.

Has anyone ever played one eyed Jacks before? They used to have them in Minnesota and they were still coin in coin out machines. In Atlantic city, the trump properties (Taj and Plaza) had at least several (universally accepted to mean 3 or 4 machines)  OEJ  games, and I have to be honest, it was one of the few games I could make my money last consistently long.I rarely WON BIG with the OEJ games at the Taj, but I often was able to plop 200 bucks into the machine and essentially play on it for several hours (again "3 to 4" hours......a couple times though, MUCH longer!)   This was especially good on days when we had comp or slot dollar multiplier earnings promotions, and thus my lonnnng extended sessions really added on the comps and slot dollars, while NOT frittering away my original stake. With OEJ  the three most important hands obviously are the four of a kind (which pays 75 credits;   the Five of a kind which paid 375, and the wild royal which earned 750)   With the two wild cards (the Jack of Spades and JAck of hearts) and the deck still being  ONLY  52 cards, this game had a lot of potential.I never did catch a natural ROyal though in all my times playing OEJ, and I always wondered how the game behaved when a player caught a natural royal in the suit of one of the actual one eyed jacks......

Olds442, I was at Casino Fandango in Carson City (driving in from Reno) on Mardi Gras because they offered 10x points even on video poker on that day. I found an IGT machine with several VP variants on it, including OEJ. When I pressed the button for Deuces and Joker, it was observed that the player could bet up to 100 coins for 5c denom (I should have checked the other denoms for sh*ts and giggles but I didn't). Same with a couple other variants (I checked JOB and DDB also IIRC). However, when I excitedly pressed the button for OEJ (on the very same machine) it was set so that the player could bet only up to 5 coins. The slot manager at Casino Fandango knows exactly what he or she is doing (although they do offer 5c progressive OEJ linked along with other vp variants for a natural RF) . . .Cheers, Asteroid. That was my favorite game at Mohegan Sun until they yanked them many years ago. In OEJ, the important hand is a straight flush. Four of a kind keeps you playing, but the sf is the money. A wild royal is awesome. A natural royal same as other games. Makes other VP boring.

JOB: straight flush occurs 1 in 10,000 hands and pays 50 to 1 (49 for the win plus the original wager)OEJ: straight flush occurs 1 in every 500 hands (roughly) and pays 50 to 1 just like JOB.So with a straight flush happening 20 times more often in OEJ than in JOB, it's amazing that people don't ignore JOB and just play OEJ like we do kitbodit. In OEJ, the important hand is a straight flush. I do not believe that there are very many casinos offering OEJ.

I do not believe that there are very many casinos offering OEJ.[/QUOTE]I count 10 casinos in the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area. YMMV. Also, since OEJ is only offered on multi-game machines these days  (AFAIK), I always see players playing DDB, JOB or other non-OEJ game on those machines that offer OEJ. I think only once in two years did I see someone else playing OEJ next to me.P.S. Daburglar, the wild jacks act as their natural selves when within a 10-A of spades or hearts straight flush so you get the 800-1 payoff in these cases and not the WRF.
