OMG!! My Semi-Cheating Story

Post by bicyclecardplayer »

For those of you who don't know me I am a man who likes to play video poker for fun.  I play nickels maximum bet on Single-Line Poker, or maximum bet pennies on multi-play machines ($40 for a royal is plenty for me!).I went to the Cannery in North Las Vegas on Tuesday because if you received 600 points that day you would receive a robe.  I really wanted one of these robes so I was off on my journey of 600 points.I played DW Super-Times Pay max bet pennies for awhile and hit two natural royals.  I was up about $65 at this point; however, I only had 49 points for my robe.I played dollar video blackjack for awhile and broke even.  I got bored after awhile, but I did manage to accrue an additional 120 points, leaving me well short of my 600.Right by the table games they have this new video roulette machine and it hit me.  If I bet on all the outside bets I will always push unless a 0 spins.  This was a European Roulette Game (meaning it was a single-zero wheel), so I bet maximum bet dollars on all the outside bets.  Well I watched my point total skyrocket praying a 0 didn't spin (and it didn't).  So only after a few spins I well exceeded the 600 points necessary for my robe without losing. But I kind of feel like I cheated........ sorta,

How would you have felt if zero showed up? It seems like a big chance ...  no chance of winning and a small chance of losing bigtime.

I can't understand why you felt guilty over your play.  You played according to their rules and used the 1:36 chance for a wipeout as a method of accruing enough comp points to get what you were after.  How about $10 slot match play?  There is an Oklahoma casino that offers this every Monday night.  All you have to do is show them a "winning ticket" of $10 or more from their TITO machines and they will cash it and add $10 to it. There is nothing that says you cannot plug the machine with $10 and immediately cash out without making a spin (or playing a hand) and double your money.

Speaking of match play type offers, I see a few that give you an ACE in blackjack.  Anyone know the EV from starting with an ACE?  And how much they are likely to let you wager?

I seem to recall that being discussed on blackjackinfo.com but it was a long time ago and I can't recall the EV.  But, if you had a high count, you could make that ACE in hand a well paying play!

Shh.  This is a great method of putting some slot club points on your card.  You can hedge the bet (put $1 on zero) to assure a loss of $1 per spin while not risking anything.
As far as the free ace goes, according to the Wizard of Odds, "The short answer is that the coupon is worth just over half of its face value."  The long answer (and more detail) can be found here.
The free ace coupon should state what the maximum bet permitted is.  Assuming you have the bankroll, you should bet that maximum ($10, $25, whatever) to get the maximum value out of the coupon.

At Red Rock they have a sign on the machines saying " 1 point for every $2 onthese machines". The single numbers only pay 34-1 here. Coast Casinos pay 36-1. If you have time it is better to just bet a couple of dollars a spin so a zero doesn't hurt your bankroll.I played at the Suncoast today. Two zeros cost me $4 but at 7x points I earned $9 in comps.I once used a craps game on multi point days at the Riverside in Laughlin  andwas comped riverview rooms. Same idea bet pass/don't pass.
