This thread started on May 13. I have been "on the road" since May 8, and returned home just yesterday. If I decide to participate in a discussion on this forum, I like to formulate my thoughts thoroughly, and then present them in well constructed grammatically correct English. I have chosen not to contribute to this topic to date because I didn't want to take the time away from my chief trip activity (playing video poker).

I have been reading the posts, though, and did throw in that off topic comment in response to what I thought was a completely unnecessary one.

I suppose the fact that you issued this apology means you interpreted my account of how I prepare a post as criticism of your style. That was not my intention. But, as the saying goes: if the shoe fits.....

In Florida Phils I''m Convinced thread he states his belief that the math does work. I don't always agree with what he writes, but this time, I do.

My opinion for whatever is worth is being lucky or unlucky can last one’s lifetime. Math comes around over infinity, but is very important for one who plays a lot. More often than not, lucky streaks end abruptly and any recent jackpots seem to vanish in a flash in sessions immediately following. Just my 2 cents worth. When I was a younger, my mom would play poker at least once a week with three other neighborhood wives. They played for pennies. This went on many years. One of the ladies and my mom’s closest friend never lost. I mean never. All the ladies were equally skilled too.

Look at it the opposite. You are drowning and a jackpot comes along to briefly give you a respite. In JOB or NSUD, all you can rightfully expect long term is to be slightly behind on the game. It's what you get for all the coins you put through it that has the potential for being profitable.

Math matters to me. By playing the best games I can find as computer perfect as I can, I can play more hands with the same money. This means more entertainment value for my dollar. Will I make more money? A computer simulation says I will. In a real casino, I don't play like a computer simulation. I may change games or change denominations at random. I may get lucky and hit a $4,000 jackpot with one $20 bill. I may also miss a 4 ace with a kicker jackpot by switching to Deuces Wild at the wrong time. I may also run out of money three hands before I hit a royal.

If you play like a computer, in time your results will mirror a simulation. If you don't, luck both good and bad becomes more significant. Professional players don't rely on luck. Recreational players often do.

The question is, should you play like a professional? That depends on why you are playing the game. If you wish to maximize your results, Yes. If it's to be entertained, you should determine how you want to be entertained and what is most important to you. The beauty of video poker is it's flexibility. It can be all things to all people.
