Reading Promo Rules

Post by DougJ »

I received a mailer from a locals casino here in LV that offered me 3X Video Poker Points on select days in August. Normally, this casino will offer 2X points on VP, valid nearly every day of each month.

I went there this morning. I was surprised at how many folks were playing the up to 99% banks of machines. Talked to someone I see regularly, sitting there at one of these machines. He had no idea that the mailer specifically excluded 3X earnings on these specific machines, as well as any JOB game. Discussion ensued amongst the other 5 folks who overheard this. None of them knew those machines were not part of the promo.

They are probably recreational players, not concerned with winning. Are they aware that those machines offer a spectrum of games and denominations, with only a couple paying up to 99%?

Sounds like the M Resort.

The M Resort has very poor management and they run the cycle of no-mailing players and then inviting them back a few months later. (except for me. I managed to piss off the GM by mentioning to him that their problems weren't because of good players but rather poor management. So long as he's in charge, I expect never to be invited back. But after he goes . . . )

Insofar as the original post goes, are you sure the players playing the up-to-99.8% games received the same mailer you did? I suspect that mailer was sent out selectively to players who used to play a lot more than they do now and are being lured to come back.

The M has VERY lucrative promotions if you're knowledgeable and well-financed. for the people with lesser bankrolls and lesser knowledge, the nearby South Point offers better opportunities.

Yes, it's the M.

Yes, totally agree with you that M is very poorly managed. Hussain is an expert at demolishing everything that the Marnell family built at M. I couldn't bear to attend the "Hussain's Favorite Things" event this year, even though we went last year. Indeed, now we rarely go to any of their "special" events, and my host has never asked why. I call it mutual indifference.

As far as the 3X mailer, these players at that bank of machines HAD received the 3X mailer, but didn't read the fine print, which really wasn't "fine print" at all, but clearly stated on the mailer. Don't know how many players received it.

a few years ago a certain casino ran a very profitable promo , IF it included the full pay 9 6 job. it did not include videopoker of any kind , only slots which made the promo useless. I had rooms comped ahead thinking this was a great play till I was told by my own host it did not include videopoker. so I went anyway. I saw a few aps playing and asked them why they were playing.the promo was a freeplay multiplier 15x or higher cant recall but my associates told me sit and play and then check your pts.it turned out that the video poker was giving the promo multipliers. so be vigilant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how many of these so called casino managers would be managing anything in a non casino environment. They have a captive audience at the casino. I guess that is how they keep their jobs. Either that, or whomever is at the top has no idea what they are doing either. I’m sure by now I have pod off the upper management at Mohegan Sun. At least I gave credit where credit is deserved in keeping the place clean. The outside landscaping is awesome too. Guess I paid for quite a few of those plantings. Speaking of South Point, I used to see and play next to a couple who split their time with Mohegan Sun and South Point. They always told me they loved the casino, but could never win at Mohegan Sun. I haven’t seen them in a couple of years. They were seniors so I hope they are still ok

No I was actually referring to was Southpoint and Mohegan Sun. It was kind of a response to Bob Dancer’s post.

South Point is not an option for us. The air quality inside is horrible. I guesstimate that 90% of all patrons smoke, which says something about South Point's target demographic, IMHO.
Don't care about their promo gas cards or paytables if we can't breathe.
