Is FPDW without points, multiplier, comps still worthwhile to play

Post by susuvp »

I am a newbie learning about 2 months how to play video poker. On lower denomination ( 0.01 - 0.25 per hand single line ) FPDW, most casino do not give out much comp and much point, even there may be no point, even there are but practically close to nothing. Those over 100% game, they dont allow much points, no multiplier, so, are this game still worthwhile to play at all. It seems not easier to make a few bucks from the casino on this kind of games because in this forum most people play less than 100% games and it looks like the profits are mostly from free room, free food, free play on points accumulated, gifts and prices from points accumulated drawing,....

so, if there are no points, no multiplier, no comp, over 100% game at 0.25 cents highest denomination is it worthwhile to play? 500hand per hour, 0.25 cents, 5 coins, mean highest average profit is $4.75 per hours over long period of times if i play perfectly on almost all the hands. This number will even be lower as i get tire then i make a little more mistakes on my hands and also i get disturbed by smoking neighbor, by a person smacking on the button, drink server, load noise from nearby machine, ......

Whether a game is "worthwhile" is up to the player. It sounds like you've already answered the question for yourself. If you're in it for playing long hours with an edge, then playing a low denom game with a small edge won't get you much of an "hourly rate" if there aren't additional bonuses to be had. But yes, it's better than playing the same game on a negative pay table for the same amount of time.

Agreed up to a point. If the game is in a cold cycle for an extended period, the game being 100 percent isn’t going to help much. Unfortunately short term isn’t defined by playing a few hours or even many hours over many sessions. Cold cycles can and do last a very long time. That said, I would take a 100 percent game over a 97 percent game any day.

To the original poster, you need to learn to ignore such comments.

Whatever the results over the last half hour, half week, half year, etc., the odds are 100.76% going forward.

Basically nobody plays this game perfectly --- there are a huge number of exceptions to even the advanced strategy --- but for those who play very close, 500 hands per hour is very slow. If you're good enough to play essentially perfectly, you're good enough to play quite a bit faster than that.

There are a number of (mostly) seniors living off of FPDW in Las Vegas. Combined with their Social Security and/or whatever other income they have, it's enough to get by.

You can ignore it if you want, but if you are interested in results in a session basis, any long session without a Royal or quad deuces being hit once or twice will be a complete disaster. If you only are looking at year end results, then yes ignore it as long as a million or so hands have been played by year end. Even then, there is no guarantee you will make that .75 percent or so edge.

That part is absolutely true (although if your disaster is "complete" you're playing for stakes that are too high.)

You can not know, however, what a particular five hour session will bring until you play it! The fact that you've been losing for a month is irrelevant. The fact that you've had six winning days in a row is irrelevant. The best predictor of what will happen over the NEXT five hours is the EV of the game (in this case we're ignoring any slot club and marketing benefits) and your skill level in playing said game.

All the quotation gives you is knowing AFTER you've played is that you should have stayed home today! And that information, after the fact, does you no good at all!

Most sessions are probably losers for most of us. It is that really nice session to the plus side that keeps us coming back. I don’t think most of us are thinking about where we will be by the end of the year. It is more like I’m here now, let’s see what we can hit and put together and having a good time while doing it. Following the paytable and strategy rules as well as avoiding playing so fast too many mistakes are made will help the year end results take care of themselves. That said, I am surprised more of us including myself never use the double up feature on winning hands. The house has no edge. I guess it is kinda like the old saying..... a bird in the hand.....we don’t want to chance giving that up. Years ago when I only played 9/6 JOB, I used to double up once any time I had a winning pair. I quit playing that way, but had no particular reason why. What I was trying to do was turn a push into an amount 2 pair would have paid. If I was playing perfectly giving me a 99.54 return, I guess playing that way would still leave me at 99.54

I had an entire BP session just for change’s sake. $-144 net. A cold cycle wiped out a $100. Too stubborn to leave.
