Mindset change

Post by Player422738 »

Let’s say you are rolling an unbiased dice with 6 sides.

Before you roll it, you make a prediction of the outcome of the dice. Your prediction can be based on any lucky thing - your lucky tshirt, lucky shoes or even your magic “ability” knowing when to change the machine.

If your prediction is correct, it’s actually a coincidence. And it happens 1 out of 6 times over time regardless of your magic power.

In Video Poker, any event of winning any hand is actually a “coincidence”. It’s either happening as frequent as getting a high pair or as rare as getting a royal flush.

All these coincidences are bound to happen and it happens according to the probability model which determines the long term frequency of each outcome.

And you really can’t do anything with that. All you need is playing correctly and let these coincidences happen by themselves.

Very enlightening HH, My problem is a shortage of "coincidences". :D
Seriously a very good thread for newbies to read. It weeds aside a lot of BS that generates false Info.& beliefs.

Ditto. Also life is about choices. In VP, discipline is the key. Making the correct choices on which games to play with the best EV is so important. Playing with a near to perfect strategy as well as timing casino comps to give yourself a better shot over time should keep your losses under control. With a little luck and pay tables and comps like free play bringing things close to 100 percent should allow one to stay close to even or better in the long run. Important..... long run is not one or even many sessions. It is years of sessions and millions of hands.

Discipline is indeed the key. I play only 9/6 JOB or NSUD with close to perfect strategy.
My mindset change needed is to avoid chasing losses.AKA steaming.
I usually wake things up on 25c or 50c play and if things go well i can stay there all day, nice trip.
Other times a -$300 start and i am at $1 play to recover.Sometimes it works.Sometimes it's the old slippery slope. But in the net-net it is not a good idea.
That part of discipline is,for me,a work in progress.

Edited to add: I know BD and others have correctly pointed out that close to perfect strategy is not good enough. And i do work on that. Have just added a mini cheat sheet on my watchband with the area of the strategy card where i miss that .01%.
