Allure of Triple Double poker

Post by bobwithakicker »

Are you hooked to Triple Double or do you rely on other games where the top hands aren't as great but the overall odds are better?

It depends on your goal.

If you have a long term edge, play the low volatile game so you can build your wealth slowly and steadily (it’s similar to investing index fund in stock market).

If you don’t have an edge and want to try your luck to win (or lose) something quick, you can try high volatile game (similar to trading options).

But if you want to play constantly, stick to the low house edge game at least, regardless of volatility.

If you are not willing to give up more than $40 when playing for real at a casino, then I would play just Bonus Poker instead, because you will get more than what you put in for a Two Pair and also have the ability to train your skills for higher bonus games like Triple Double and Double Double since the bonuses for Four Aces or Four 2, 3, 4 are present but at a lower payout. At that amount you have at least 32 plays before return on a single line at maximum quarter bet.

If you are willing to spare $60 you could also try a dime bet for a triple line game with Bonus Poker and have at least 40 plays before return at max bet, and this could work out if dealt a Royal and you end up with $1200 ($400 x 3), $200 more than on a single line play with maximum quarter bet.

I do like to play Triple Double myself since I'm in a good habit of going after Aces and love having two opportunities for 4000, but the lower return for Three of a Kind is where the money eating comes in (10 versus 15 in other games). You got to be willing to spare $140 for at least 112 plays to have a chance of getting something you want out of it on a single line game.

One good game which I have come to like is Super Double Double Bonus. You may not always find it on a machine but if you do, the pay table has rewards for Four of a Kind involving a face card K, Q, J with a face card kicker for 800, and a face card can also be a kicker for Four Aces for 1600! You have the same payout of 2000 for Four Aces and 2, 3, 4 but at least two more opportunities for higher paying Four of a Kinds which makes the game more lucrative. Plus, the Three of a Kind is still 15

I have a lot of "gamble" in me and it just so happens that TDB is one of the, if not the best, game in the casinos I play. So therefore, I play a lot of TDB.

I usually play short sessions - maybe an hour or so and TDB either sends me to the moon, or cleans my clock. Usually the latter. Quickly too.

To me the less volatile games just slowly beat you down with their house edge. But with TDB there are mulitple hands paying 800, 2000 and 4000. All I need is one of them to go home a big winner.

Now, if for some reason a longer session is worthwhile - like maybe a big drawing, or 12X points day, or I'm in Vegas and don't want to bomb out my first night; I'll play the highest returning, low volatility game.
