Finding a mistake

Post by DougJ »

I've never experienced this before, and anticipating probably won't again

Living in Vegas, I've never gone looking for "plays". I'm interested in good promotions, but am not interested in driving randomly around town, searching for deals.

So, I was stunned to find "mistake" tables on two different games, loaded onto a bank of three VP machines. Initially, I assumed it wasn't a "mistake", but perhaps this casino had intentionally upgraded the tables to entice players back during this virus. But, it was only on two games. . . . not all of the games on these 3 machines. So, I played. And played. And played.

Over New Year's weekend, the paytables on this bank of 3 machines were reset. They are still "good" paytables, but certainly not over 100% payback. Well, maybe not happening again for me.

But, being a travel geek, always searching for "mistake" rates and fares, "never say never." :D

That's great, and I would have played and played as well.

You had the edge.

Now the inevitable question... did you come out ahead? :)

Inquiring minds want to know! Let me guess: break even!

I ended up ahead several thousand dollars on that VP bank, which was fine for me. I'm sure someone with a larger bankroll could have exploited this for ten times that, as these were multi-denomination machines.
I was constantly looking over my shoulder, as if this was a trap of some kind . . . . I'd go home and recheck wizardofodds paytables on those two games, just to be sure I wasn't miscalculating the edge. I wasn't.
It was also interesting that only one other player reappeared frequently during this time period . . . I even wondered if he ever went home.

Can you share with us the game and pay table, or would you rather not?

Standard video poker (I never play "carnival games" like Ultimate X or Dream Card, etc.).

Bonus Poker: 10/6.

JOB: 10/7.

All the rest of the tables were "normal" pays for straights, etc.

DougJ, Good for you on finding these two gems.

Like you I do not go actively looking for such plays, but played and played and played when I stumbled on similar pay tables.

Did you use a players card? As Vegas is getting very good at restricting players for finding/taking advantage of mistakes.

These aren't mistakes. They knew what they're doing. When slot mangagers have techs change pay tables, the pay back percentage is shown along with game type. My guess was this was a type of progressive dump and will be short lived.

I thought a progressive dump required a progressive to dump into. It says so in the name.

Errors will always be possible. "Misclicks" happen. Maybe the tech misread the payback % as 10.25%.

But I wouldn't have expected such pay tables to be available on the selection menu. Is this a casino that has offered FPDW or other 100% games?
