What does this mean?

Post by DougJ »

I'm playing at a bank of videopoker machines, and the bill acceptor was not taking money . . . the screen reverted to some 'tilt" message and attendant called. I'm told the "can" was full. No problem, it's happened before when I've been playing.

What I didn't understand: it wasn't a slot floor person (plus security, with the empty can, ready to take full one). It was a slot technician, the ones who repair frozen machines, sticky buttons, etc.

I watched him pull can, put in new one. Then he went to some screen, and I assumed he needed to clear the "tilt" message. There was a line that referred to "remote" control of that machine. It was OFF. He punched in the button and activated the "remote" control.
Why was this done? I understand slots can be controlled by a remote computer server. Is this "remote" typically off or on with any given machine? Did the 'tilt" turn it off? Or was it left off?
This was a standard video poker machine.

Correct.
So, why does a technician turn on the remote control access . . . . does that mean it's always on, connected to a main server, and the "Tilt" switched it off? Or is it usually meant to be off?

Agreed.
In this case, I've waited around before at other casinos for the "can" to be emptied, but usually it takes 10 seconds to remove the full can and replace it with an empty one. I'd never had a slot technician do this job, and never saw this "remote" access/control function previously utilized just because you are changing out the full can.
By the way, I had inquired before in another thread, do you now get comped visits for the Virgin/Mohegan Sun Casino here in Vegas?

I've never specifically watched how they fix this issue, but i see it every day. I'll try and catch some pictures later. I think it has something to do with the cash out system and nothing to do with the actual game.

Advice from table games dealers would be much, much, MUCH higher than that!
