New to the forum and world of video poker strategy. Recently have been reading a lot about it and lo and behold even not understanding the strategy completely......I hit 3 small jackpots this past week end. Hit 2 4awk for 2K each and a Royal Flush for 4K.........is this just beginners luck or can I expect continuing success by learning and applying the video poker strategy. I was playing DD Bonus Poker each time. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

I am guessing beginners luck do not expect your current winning streak to continue. Then again maybe it will.

"How often" you win will depend on what you mean by that.

You mean a winning trip to the casino? Then it matters how long you play for, how much money you bring, and what pay tables you are playing.

If you mean how often will you get Aces with a Kicker or a Royal, that's easier to answer.

9/6 DDB strategy with expected probabilities

A 250-credit quad is about 1 in 613, Aces w/kicker is about 1 in 16,236, and a royal is about 1 in 40,799. For your big hits, strategy adjustments had likely little to do with it.

Welcome to the forum.  DDB is a volatile game.   It's the most popular video poker  game by far because of the numerous big jackpots.  It doesn't get much better in video poker than having a good day playing DDB.  From my experience, you can expect one of these "good" days about 1 out of every 8 trips. The majority of the time the game will leave you feeling like you were run over by a truck.  The most common DDB game we see in our travels is the 8/5 version which is a 96.7% game.  The odds don't mean much to most players as they don't play enough hands to see any difference.  What better odds do is let you play longer with the money you have giving you a better chance of hitting a jackpot.  DDB also requires a bigger bankroll because you may go for days on end without a decent hit.  If you are a casual player, DDB is an enjoyable pastime because it mostly depends upon the luck of that particular day and when you are out of money you leave.  It's hard to get ahead of this game for any period of time.  I've had numerous days playing DDB with quads all over the place and walked out even.  If you get into video poker on a regular basis and start to invest some real money, there are better options in my opinion.Hope that helps.  Good Luck!

i think the post above should be required reading for all who really want to know the truth of playing DDB VP. i will add, that i believe what no one else really wanted to tell you, was that on that particular session you had a number of very good hands, you were very lucky. do not expect that on a regular basis.  best of luck, VP can be a wonderful enjoyable game and addictive. over the long haul, you will likely lose money, and money management, playing within your bankroll/financial limits are important. consider it entertainment and learn the slot club benefits/rules. get every dollar of perk from the casino you are entitled to, you are paying for it.

Welcome to the forum. I am a DDB player and I love the game. As others have pointed out it is a roller coaster of a game, but I am okay with the ups and downs. If you are someone who is okay with high risk high reward situations you will enjoy the game. Here is a quick breakdown of my returns over the past year. I am a .25 max coin player. First 6,000 hands won $900Next 4,000 hands lost $800Next 3,000 hands won $1,300Next 9,000 hands lost $1,505Next 3,000 hands won $550Next 3,000 hands lost $550Then 2 Royals in an hour won $1,750Last 6,000 hands lost $750 Yes, that is volatility! But if you play at a level within your means and have a personality that fits the game it is a fun ride. Take the advice of previous post and study the wonderful info on the wizardofodds.com.
