Lately I been chasing a lot of bar bonuses and am running into machines that offer a double up option.
After you win, you get that option. If you take it, five cards are dealt. The first card is turned over and is the house card. You pick one of the four. It's like war.
I'm not sure how many times you can double if you keep winning.
A couple nice doubles can make your session, and a few bad ones can ruin it.
As it seems to be a 50-50 bet that,in the end,simply results in fewer paying hands per hour,I'm surprised it's offered.

I would be interested in learning how the math works in double or nothing. I sat next to a young woman in a casino who was making a killing on this feature. Every time I've tried it I've busted.

Yes, at 50/50 it's one of the best bets in the casino. I once mistakenly hit the double up feature after a $300 win on .50 SDB, and after cursing at myself, was pleasantly surprised when the dealer turned over a 3. I turned over a 9, but never want to make that mistake again.

I'm hoping Mr Dancer has looked at these bets and comment on them.Limited observation shows they aren't very common in casinos.
Also curious if the wagers count as coin in.

I remember reading that the bet does not count as coin so the bet was not recommended.

And the math is simple Chicagoan. You get a full win when you win, a full loss when you lose, and a push when you tie. So as long as you believe the cards are dealt from a random, standard deck, the house edge on this is nothing. Many states mandate these features must return 100% long term.

In my case, on the reveal only one of the four cards beats the house's big fat card. Not a good bet. I usually get smoked and torched on this. Once burned, twice shy. Not part of the comp equation, so a bad bargain all around.

If I gave you 100 to 1 if you lost (a push doesn't count as a loss) 60 or more times out of a 100 double-up attempts, would you take that bet?

If I gave you 100 to 1 if you lost (a push doesn't count as a loss) 60 or more times out of a 100 double-up attempts, would you take that bet?[/QUOTE]You should pitch THIS (the posing of a MATH question requiring analytical reasoning and calculation) as a actual casino game concept....you'd rake it in because the average American is horrible at Math, and the average American CASINO player is even MORE horrible, lol.    Think about it, the table game would advertise something like "Math Class Roulette: Min Bet $5  Max $500".....the player would be given a math problem/question and have a time limit to complete his solution/analysis.....Your above question (which is conducive to a simple "YES or NO" answer format) gives any prospective player a 50-50 chance!!!!!!  I won't spoil the answer to the actual, real question until FAA makes a response......
