Unfortunately this site is no longer usable

Post by farfelnugen »

Unless (and I'm speculating since I don't really know...) you're a Gold or Silver member. The ads we "basic" members are subjected to have essentially killed the games. You may be able to play a few hands, but sooner or later, and its usually sooner, the games hang, break freeze and die.

It was fun for awhile, but what's the point of this website if you can't play? Oh, yeah, pay to play! Just like the casinos...

Now i get it.

since silver membership only cost $2.95 a month or $24.95 a year i can't figure out how you can't manage it.if you go to other casino/video poker sites they may start you with x amount of chips and when you run out you have to buy more;here they automatically replenish.

If the site wanted to become a strictly pay site, that's what they should have done and been up front about it. Unfortunately, it seems that the strategy was to make the free side practically unplayable.

Use an ad blocker. Plenty of them on the internet to download.

The impact of ads varies greatly depending on which ads are running, and the computer/browser you are using. We make efforts to block any ads that cause issues during gameplay, however advertisers change out frequently. If there is a particular ad causing problems, please let us know and we will do our best to remove it in a timely manner.

Someone above mentioned using an ad blocker. Well that doesn't fly for obvious reasons. The games don't even load in that case. But to address your question as to which ads might be causing this, it seems to me like all of them are guilty parties. And I've tried Chrome, Safari and Firefox and all browsers are affected. I should add that I'm using OS X version 10.11.5

This issue started the evening of May 31. I thought the servers were getting slammed because the monthly contest was wrapping up and everyone was waiting until the last minute to play all their hands. Then came the news that the whole website was redesigned. And it indeed looks better, but perhaps something in the new coding might be the root of the problem? As I said, I'm no expert and have no clue what's causing this or what the solution might be. It's just frustrating from the users standpoint.

And yes, sure I could easily pony up the $25 for Silver and eliminate my dilemma personally, but I don't think that's the point. If I decide to play here as a basic member and put up with the ads that's my (and many others member's I would venture to guess...) choice. But doing so should not make it virtually impossible for those of us making that decision to actually play any games.

In addition to the freezes occurring after every one or two games, I can't see the top half of the top row in any game that has three rows.  The top add appears to be larger, as does each row.  I did not have this problem until the newly designed website appeared.  Very disappointing - very hard to enjoy the games.

I also have ran into complete locking up of the game (Site no longer responding). Games also get slower the longer I play until it is too frustrating to continue. Several ads seem to cause this but the worst is the Whirlpool ad and another ad that appears to be for some movie.
Very Frustrated and disappointed in VP.
If the basic members disappear then so will your advertisers. Without that income the rates for payed membership will have to increase. Don't get too greedy with your ads.

I am using the latest version of Firefox and my wife is using the latest version of IE. We have a 64 bit operating system with 6 GB of RAM. We are both getting hammered bigtime as to where we have to give up after a few hands. There are 3 ads that constantly change during play. One at the top, one to the right side of the screen, and one directly below the Contests and Gold Member Exclusives tab. I believe the old format only had one ad that would periodically change during play and that was totally doable, but with 3 ads constantly changing, I think that is what is killing it here.

Apparently some progress has been made. I just played two rounds of the monthly contest with no problems whatsoever. Not sure what happened on the backend but clearly this glitch is looking much, much better.

Fingers crossed that the nasty bug has been permanently squashed!
