When do the counts update. Finally took some time from the contests and was catching up, when I just happen to notice that a poster has the same count for two days on three different post??

It is always current, so it does indeed show the same number on all posts.  In other words, when someone posts their third message, it will says "Posts: 3" on all of their messages, not 1,2,3 .
