User Error or Malfuction

Post by DOUBLE B »

Several times over the past few years I have had the below problem on VP machine(s). I have had it to happen at several casinos and on several machines at the same casino. I am prone to think it is user error but I can not determine how/why it is my fault. The Problem: I will be playing and I will hold (or attempt to hold) first card from the left and or maybe first and second card from the left along with maybe the 4th or 5th card. As soon as i hit the frist and second button (to hold) the screen goes "return to game". Meaning I lost the cards I was attempting to hold and actually loose the complete game. The screen goes from showing 5 cards cards as stated above to "return to game" screen. When I go to return to game it shows my 5 original cards including the ones I was holding (still showing hold on the cards) but I am into a new game now. So the net result is I loose that one "play/deal". I really think I am doing something (without realizing it) at the start of the hold with my left hand (fingers). The problem only happens when I hold starting from the left-never from the right,  but I don't know what and even if I am doing something off beat why does the machine react as it does. I have probably done a poor job explaining-----not that it matters but I play only DB VP. The faster I play the more frequent it happens. I may play for 40 hours (total) without it happening then it will happen several times within a few hours. Anyone want to take a shot as to what I may be doing to cause this. Surely I am not theonly person this ever happens to-----even if it is user error.

Double, I can clearly see your problem. Switch to TDB, if you can find it, and voila $4K when those awaks hit! You will probably never see "return to game" again and if you do, you will not even care! Practice the game on trainer first until you find your % comfort zone of correct play. Click on play video poker on the top left, red lettering on black background. Scroll down to triple double bonus. After you engage your game, click "trainer" at the top. This feature lets you know when you are making a bad play and what you should have held.

This happens to me occasionally, but used to happen all the time. It happens when you think you are in the middle of hand, when you are actually at the end of the hand. I figured out that this usually happens to me after I discard all five cards. Since I threw away all 5 cards, when the 5 new cards appear it can feel like a new deal. So then you go to hold a card and it goes to the menu. Why? Because you already threw all 5 cards away and you're looking at the draw cards instead of the initial deal. This is user error of course, but I think the machines could have been designed to be more obvious about what is happening. Hope this helps. I can't say for sure this is what you are experiencing but it happened to me enough to give you one good possibility. The appearance of it is exactly what you describe.

I agree with Eduardo. It happens to me when I over speed my brain and lose focus.  It happens often to my playing partner(Tanqueray) and she will ask what the H... happened.  I have found this happens to me more on single line the Multiple play machines. Not an issue to .worry about since you have in fact played the hand and reaped the rewards.

I agree also. What you are hitting is the "more games" button which lights up after a hand is completed and is why you return to the menu.

Well, you don't have to hit the actual "more games" button. Pressing anywhere on the screen other than a bet button will take you to the menu, as well as pressing a hold button. That's why it happens when you try to  hold a card.
Unless "more games" doubles as one of the hold buttons, which I have not noticed but is possible.

It all depends on the type of machine. But yes, on many machines the left hold button becomes "more games" and the next one over controls the speed (IIRC).

EXample, dealth and hold 1 Ace, when the draw happens you now have trip Aces, wow your brain says and you hit the hold button for the 1st Ace and  "voila"  game screen.
