Malicious web site appears during contests

Post by pokerjoker1 »

A few times over the past week while plying the contests, a web page (supposedly from Microsoft) suddenly appears in place of the contest I was playing. The only way to get rid of the bogus page is to shut down my laptop.

The web page today, which looks like it comes from Microsoft but the URL doesn't, instructed me to download Windows 10 updates.....I didn't. I copied the URL, but for some reason it doesn't paste here.

A few days ago, another Microsoft looking page would suddenly appear with an explanation "note". The note said something like...Microsoft detected malicious software that will severely compromise your computer unless you immediately call (#xxx etc.) to have our expert technicians assist you in removal and unlock your computer, etc., etc. It did not let me copy the page or note. Again, I had to shut down my laptop in order to get rid of the page.

This is similar to when we occasionally get phone calls from "Windows" saying they detected a problem with our Windows operating system. At which my husband replies.."Windows? We live underground in a geothermal home. We don't have any windows". Then they hang up.

This is a brand new 2-in-1 laptop with updated Windows 10 and Kaspersky Internet Security. I'm using Chrome and the above has never happened anywhere else except videopoker.com pages that contain ads. I feel this problem must be coming from one of your ads somehow.

It's extremely frustrating to deal with. Especially when your contest game is interrupted and you lose points to boot!

Thank you

If it is an ad, we will attempt to track it down and make sure it is removed. Given what you've described, we obviously advise you NOT to trust it or download any of the supposed updates. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I have had the same thing happen to me a few times now, but mine have NOT been on this site...And like pokerjoker said, its just like the phone call scams...We cleaned out all history, files, etc. and so far so good...Hopefully people won't fall for this scam!

Same problem here, happened 4 times today and has been happening for about a month now. It completely locks up my browser and the only way to get rid of it is Task Manager it to close down. Afterward clearing the browser history it will work for a little while but it still comes back. The URL started with something like pc.virus or pcvirus etc.

I got one of these too. After another play money royal in my first round of the weekly contest...sigh I would love to know my record there.

The game just randomly moved to another website and the page said there was a chrome update. But the site was from here, not chrome itself.

I obviously didn't click on it, and do NOT suggest that anyone else does either.

But I'll probably have to quit playing contests as well over this. They tend to be just frustration of hitting premium wins for nothing for me anyway...lol

Webman:

Here's the site that has popped up at least once on every game played to day. Hope you can get this eliminated. Once it comes up, it cancels the game.

Thanks,
CK

Same thing happened to me a couple times in the last hour (and also numerous times in the past). The most frequent ad is one instructing me to upgrade my flash, and shuts out all my activity no matter where I click and I can only restart my browser (Safari). Also got one of this type wanting me to do a survey for RCN.
