Wynn Las Vegas

Post by dfs »

I have been going to Vegas for a long time but this November trip will be my first stay at the Wynn.  Any comments on the rooms there or the gaming action?

If you're a table player, get ready for dealers with an attitude.  Reminds me of Caesars.  Don't care for an attitude when I am risking my money.  Vegas is supposed to be a good time win or lose.  Didn't stay there so no comment on the rooms although did talk to another shooter while there who was staying.  He said the rooms are very nice.

Wow the Wynn. Must be nice. When in November are you heading to Vegas. The wife and I are going Nov 16 - Nov 22. We are staying in 2 different hotels. Terribles for 3 days and the Tropicana for the other 3 days.

We're going for 4 nites  Sat. Nov 25th so we'll just miss you.  We went to check out thw Wynn last Aug. when we were there and signed up for their club.  About a month ago they emailed me with a special rate of $119 for a resort room on a week nite plus $100 credit in free slot play.  We usually stay at the Mirage but this was a deal I couldn't pass up.  I've been going to Vegas for 25 years and have stayed at most of the Strip properties so I thought this was a good time to check out Wynn.  Tip to everyone, not only is it good to sign up for the casinos' clubs but it also good to sign up for email offers from each hotel web site.  I've always made my hotel reservation from these offers as the rates are always great plus you get free play offers, food credits , spa passes and the like.  I just started playing video poker the last year so I'm  looking forward to testing my skills this trip.  I was playing 50 play vp at an online casino.  A week before our government made it illegal to play online for money in this country I got the Royal Flush on the first hand and won $2000!  Now that I can't play online anymore I'm antsy to go to Vegas and am using my winnings to pay for the trip.   Hope you have a great time and win big.

I play blackjack and pai gow poker.  I agree with your opinion of Caesars, I don't think they're very friendly but I've come across dealers with attitude at just about every strip casino.  The dealers at the Palms are nice but they often don't have enough open tables off hours on the weekdays when Iike to play.

I like you have been going to Vegas a long time.  First trip was 1978 when the grand old casinos (We old folks like to reminisce - Dunes, Sands, etc.) were still there.  I haven't paid for a room or food out there in 20 years and you're right, don't forget to sign up for a card.  I tell people who don't even gamble that much that they'll get reduced rates, free credits etc. if they only get a card.  If you're willing to visit off-peak (Tues., Wed., Thurs.) even the nominal player will get comped rooms.

I first went to Vegas at 18 and was hooked ever since.  I live in Ohio and the closest places to gamble are Detroit and Windsor.  They are always crowded and the odds are terrible.  Have to admit I'm a Vegas snob.  There is no better place in the world to play.  I see from your user name that you're a craps player from Chicago (my birth place).  Is there any place besides Vegas near by that you like to play?  I'm just getting to a point in my life where I can gamble with freedom and hope to some day get comped like you do.  Any tips from an "old timer" for getting comped besides joining the clubs?

Marry someone who plays a lot of Slots!  They get about 100% more in comp points than a VP player.  They get any percentage you want to name over Blackjack players who generally get nothing unless they are playing green or black.

There are riverboats in IL and nearby in IN.  The Indiana boats are terrible for VP but better at craps.  There's a Horseshoe with 100x odds on the craps tables and the highest maximums on all tables around.  IL boats have better pay tables on VP but are really lacking on tables.  Yeah, I'm a dice shooter and the dealers in IL (most not all) are bad.  Lots of attitude and a lot of mistakes.  Player shouldn't have to tell dealer how to pay a bet.
As for tips on comps, MikeA is correct, VP players get 1/2 the comp value for dollar in because according to the casinos, there is more playthrough.  If you play VP and are interested in the comp value, play the simplest like Jacks or better with perfect strategy.  No brainer there but where's the fun.  Check the pay tables for sure.  Blackjack as well as all table games are rarely even rated at less than $25.  Sure the PB will take your card and write down your buy-in but he won't pay attention to your action.  Bellagio won't even rate <$25 player.  Check the back of their card.
Play at the places that cater to the smaller player.  Sure it won't be a steak from Emeril or some other famous chef but you can get the best steak dinner in Vegas at Circus Circus (voted best steakhouse 11 years in a row).  Downtown casinos are very generous with comps for the moderate player and if you play, you will get rooms.
