Las Vegas casino chips and other memorabilia

Post by Danny61231 »

Hey everyone, like most of you I love Las Vegas and really everything about the city. On my last trip I began collecting poker chips from all of the casinos I visited. Since my last trip I have really been getting the bug to start collecting even more poker chips and any other fun/exciting Vegas memorabilia. If anyone has any information for me on the hobby (I really know nothing) I would really appreciate it. Also if you know anywhere I can find poker chips that would be really cool. I really don't have a lot of money to put into this and I really don't care if the items are even worth anything but I just love it. If anyone can help me out with either information, poker chips, or other memorabilia please let me know. Thanks a lot,
Dan 25 years old from MN

P.S. I would really like to get some items from some of the casinos that are no longer around also.

Welcome to the VP Forum.
There is a Casino Chip Club in Las Vegas and in Atlantic City.
You can go on the websites- http://www.thechipboard.com/index.cgi/  for Las Vegas news and information,                                                                also  http://msprods.net/phpBB2/index.php  .. for Atlantic City Chip Club.

Casino Player ran a series of articles on Chip collecting last year. You might check theirweb site to see if those articles were archived.

Hi Danny and welcome to forum. eBay has over 3K listings under "vegas poker chips" for great ideas of what is out there. No doubt other casino items are listed separately under their topic. If curious about any particular listing you can put it on WATCH and check back later to see what it sold for. eBay is a buyers market just now and many items are going for only one bid!craigslist.org offers free "wanted ads" as well as "for sale" listings. You enter your state and then area. They make it easy to list, edit and delete!Your library probably has THE ANTIQUE TRADER newspaper type publication in the magazine section. It might have some ads for poker chips. I have seen them advertised there in the past.I have heard of a club in the metro Detroit area that is into collecting and trading players cards from casinos and there are also listings in eBay for those. Wish I knew if others can pick your personal info from those magnetic strips on the back of players cards and hotel key cards! I have heard warnings about them.Tropicana has an interesting Vegas casino museum in their back, lower level, next to the snack bar, that will inspire you. You should not have to pay admission as there are free passes given out all over the place. Perhaps when you spin the huge wheel in front, outside on the strip side or the wheel on the upper cross walk as you leave MGM and walk over Tropicana Avenue to the Trop. (Once I won $40 of tickets to see  Follies Bergere at the Trop which is a great Vegas style variety show. We had to catch a plane so I gave the tickets to the next in line.) Admission to the museum or a coupon for a deck of cards to be redeemed at the back of the casino are probably the most common prizes. (Imperial Palace has a great automobile museum on an upper level and again free admission cards are frequently given out. 'Hard to believe any one pays admission to that, either. Maybe local newspapers or the "what to do in Vegas" booklets in your room or other areas would have passes to the car and casino museums.)
