Visited Vegas last weekend and hadn't walked along the strip in a long time. I always felt the numerous individuals smacking "Nudie Bar' and Escort Service pamphlets in my face really cheapens vegas (mind you this is in front of the Bellagio and Paris). I guess I ad forgotten how bad it was, but it seemed like they were every 2 feet.....now to add to the festivities, their are numerous costumed individuals hitting up all the tourists for a photo and gratuity.  Every type of costume from Professional to Home-made crappy and otherwise were present.  It really looked "BAD" and was literally an obstacle course to get from hotel to hotel.  I think Vegas has looked into regulating this, but is has raised "freedom of Speech issues.  I'm all for getting rid of all of them...any body else have an opinion?

In a poor economy, it beats pickpockets. But I agree it is an annoyance that takes away from the experience.

  They should at least regulate it like they do the $1 a bottle water sellers. some of the costumes/makeup are extremely poorly done.

When we were in vegas a few weeks ago, we did not encounter costume/makeup types bothering us but did find a hip hop type selling cds and  the hordes of folks giving out cards for "hot dates" in twenty minutes or so!  The latter didn't seem to be bothered either by the presence of my wife or my senior citizen status. LOL

You'd like our son who is very cool, even-tempered and tolerant of others. However, we have never seen him so indignant and adamant about never bringing his kids to Vegas. It's all about of the card snappers on the strip. He understood where I was coming from when I said at least they were working instead of begging or on welfare. However, he still felt it wrong for them to be there. I agree. He has been to Vegas several times on business but refuses to turn it into a family vacation.

Good choice. Vegas is no place for a family vacation.............. imo

the devil is in the details. We just did an outing with the kids and will likely return soon. We encountered a couple of card snappers in front of the Bellagio but not too many. We did see a glut of them around Planet Ho. Most of our travel was by vehicle or to and from the parking  garage. Minimal contact with the street performers and card issuers.

Part of the Vegas experience is in the walking partially to rev the metabolism and get the heart rate UP after too many buffets! We usually do not have a car in Vegas nor do we feel the need for one. Predictably, the card snappers are more nocturnal animals. Further, they would have less of an impact on your older children than our younger grandchildren. We have been to a few other gambling locations and there are no card snappers to be seen. I assume they would be there if they were allowed to exist.

las vegas is not for kids when after the vacation we have all seen these couples having a public fight after one or both people either drank to much gambled(lost to much) or other upsetting activities. it provides "entertainment" as these families should not take these vacations

  I agree that the street people are more of a nuisance than anything else. Simply put, I only gave my point of view as to how we did our Vegas trip. It will always be an adult playground and that is partially why the card and magazine people exist. Until Vegas regs. disallow them, they'll be part of the flotsam that exists there. I'm cautious not to let my kids see the sin side of sin city.
