I thought ALL Vegas casinos comped drinks when you were playing. I need to get out more..

What does he mean he was playing 'a dollar a hand'?? do you mean 5 coins on a quarter machine, or 1 coin on a dollar machine??

I have been at MANY bars where they tell you that you get comped drinks that
a: you must put at least a 20$ bill in,
b: you must play at least max coin on quarters.

This is nothing new. Bartenders have to put up with a LOT of people who scam them, AND don't tip......how many times have I seen someone (especially young women, AKA hookers) stick a ticket in a bar machine, get the bartenders attention, play 2 or 3 nickels at keno, get their drink, and cashout and leave.

The bartender has rules that he needs to follow to comp people.......give him a break. And a tip.

The first time I was charged while playing VP at the bar was last year at the Wynn.  I was very surprised, but I'm sure the bartender is just following orders.  But, needless to say, I paid, took my drink, and left.  BTW, was playing dollars...so, I guess that's just the way it is now.  Most casinos, you can sit down, put your $20.00 in, and get comped drinks as long as you play.

What doesn't make sense is you have to pay for drinks at the bar but get them free out on the floor. OK so you don't get the fancy drinks in a glass on the floor but does anyone actually care?  Why the VP bar discrimination?

I went into Wynn one night 8 months ago with 3 of my friends from the base. I stayed on the floor nearby while they all sat at some high limit bar, but they all stayed only for about ten minutes after having to pay $5.95 each for their Bud Lights. One of them even put in $500 and started playing the TEN DOLLAR vp game.

What I thought was odd is that I got a comp beer playing a quarter machine on the floor. Someone in management there isnt thinking.

Reason 1 not to play VP at the bar - lousy paytables.Reason 2 - lousy service.

Deuces, I only play at bars once or twice a year because the seats are mostly too high up for me and its usually too much trouble finding just the right amount of room when theres those couple of lower spots available, but I think youre right about the paytables. I dont understand what you meant about the service though. Arent the bartenders more present than the cocktail waitresses?

Backsider,I, too, only play at bars very occasionally due to sticky keys and low paytables.  The few times I have played, however, the drinks have been free (I think - I don't drink & gamble) and the service has been much faster than on the floor machines.  All of the above is true unless the casino is crowded and then getting a drink is almost impossible anywhere.  I usually take a water bottle into the casino with me - much faster service that way.
