Imperial Palace now The Quad

Post by OTABILL »

Just read that Caeser's is renovating and renaming the Imperial Palace. New name is the Quad. Never have played there nor would even set foot in the place given its reputation. Thought some might find this of interest.

Caesars is also renovating Bill's Gambling Hall right up the street from The Quad. They will both have a new face-lift soon.

oh wow, the old IP (imperial palace) was always the black sheep of the Strip ever since Steve Wynn first built the Mirage and started the era of the Mega-resort casino....throughout the 1990s into the year 2000 and beyond, while the strip became crowded with ever increasing behemoths of style, flash and tastelessness, the IP kinda stayed stuck in 1977 (just like the Riviera and the now defunct Sahara)....I forget when exactly Caesars purchased the IP, but I actually had a stretch where I played and stayed a lot at the IP before they were bought out;  I was a regular there from Late 2003 until September 2004, I think I stayed there every Month during that time period, a total of 6 or 7 days each month, usually on weekends, as I was comped back then....dont ask me why, I never played too much back then, its just one day in November 2003 I received an offer for a 3 night stay on a weekend and it kept coming until The end of the following year;  one of those Mystery "in the mail" comps we have all received at some point in our lives! I totally MISS the old Vegas, in my opinion the city of Vegas was at its IDEAL composition and setup in January 1999, right after the Bellagio opened.....they should have STOPPED right then and there, it was perfect!  They still had a mix of the old classic, nostalgic places like the Flamingo, Barbary Coast, Stardust, Frontier and good ol' WESTWARD HO , combined with middle aged classics like Excalibur and the Mirage, followed by the BRAND NEW BELLAGIO and still-fresh Luxor, Monte Carlo and NewYORKNEWYORK......Plus you had the Stratosphere and the still historic DOWNTOWN experience, along with the still new off the strip Rio to accompany all the other off-strip classics like Orleans, Sams  and all the Station(s).....yessir, they should have STOPPED building in 1999, they'd be in a lot better shape today! But as early as 1996, right after Monte Carlo opened and just before Ny-NY opened, the imperial Palace was bemoaned by people like Steve Wynn, and by the Owners of Harrah's-Las Vegas (right next door) as a veritable "slum".....and it was, in comparison!  It stayed that way thru the next decade, and the one reason had to do with its clientele....IP was heavy into bringing plane loads of Asiam gamblers from places like Korea and Taiwan and even Japan, mostly middle class or lower gamblers from Asia who wanted a LAS VEGAS experience.   The IP often had some of the cheapest rooms on the strip from 1997 thru as late as 2006, so this attracted a lot of drive thru guests on the way in or out of Vegas, and a lot of young people from LA on weekends.    But despite its seemingly dirty facade, the IP was still a viable gaming experience where it counted, and its dining restaurants were actually SUPERB during this time period before being bought out by Caesars/Harrahs!    The IP sportsbook was the only one that had a DRIVETHRU window, which made it super convenient and popular with the Los Angeles weekend football Betting crowd as you could cash your tickets on your way out of town back to L.A. as you raced to get back home on a Sunday Night or early Monday Morning and every second you saved counted trying to beat the traffic jams on the I-15 back to LA!!!!

Recently read that Caesar's Corp is in the process of sprucing up the common areas of the "Quad" and adding about 50,000 sq feet of new casino floor; however, there are currently no plans for room renovations. The fact they are sinking some money into this property and didn't implode it while completing The Linq project suggests it might stay around for a while, but it will still probably end up being the old, worn $29 a weeknight hotel it traditionally has been. That is actually fine with me, as there is nothing wrong with having a few budget options on the strip that still afford prime location albeit with older, more tired accommodations. I, too, actually miss the Vegas Strip of 15-20 years ago - when there was that mix of old and new that afforded visitors a wide variety of options. It was actually nice when most properties were in the infancy of building large towers and were in that sweet spot where they had newer tower rooms to offer, as well as the older "motel" style rooms. Being able to park right in front of your room at the Stardust or Flamingo was darn convenient and boy do I miss that surface parking lot in front of Bally's where you could park your car and be center strip in just a few seconds of walking.

Has anyone gone to the car museum at the Imperial Palace?  We went in Sept and it is something to see,  it was a WOW moment for us. It was 10.00 per person but if you go to the rewards center they give you a coupon for 1 free, it is worth seeing, There was a really nice spot devoted to Johnny Carson and the car that he gave them, it was his fathers, alot of history there. Just wanted to let people know that it is there and great fun to see,

Hi Everybody,

Well it's almost time. I leave Sunday and wanted to know if anyone has any last minute suggestions or specials in Las Vegas they know of? Also, is there a site that lists the current incentives to join casino clubs for the first time (i.e. free slot paly, etc.)?

Thank you again everyone for all the great advice,

Most of The Strip casinos have some sort of incentive, like FreePlay or Match your Losses, if you are a new member. Always ask, even if there is no signage.

One of the better Strip offers is a $100 Slot/VP rebate at The Cosmopolitan. If I recall correctly, your loss doesn't have be your first day playing either. So you could win on your first day of play and come back and still get reimbursed if you lost on another day. I would double check on that latter part though.
