Supposedly at The Palms as it received many rewards for the best place to play slots from various publications, but definitely not the strip. I still have painful memories from there.

Yeah, near off strip will definitely be a bit looser than the strip. Either way, being at the right machine at the right time will be the most important thing.

As far as individual slots to play...It's going to boil down a lot to personal preference. I'm a sucker for older video slots myself. Also have a soft spot for "Family Guy", but I haven't really won on that.

I've viewed one of the videos with John Grochowski on the American Casino Guide youtube page where I heard slot games that are themed after existing intellectual properly pay out lower than usual slots since a small chunk of the incoming coin in goes into the form of royalty. I am not sure how true this is because I lost no matter what I game played in Vegas strip casinos.

Oh I believe it. I assume that sucker was near 85% (typical minimum for most IGT machines). "Jetsons" was a terrible vacuum for me too.

vman, not trying to be tricky, just have a question for you. i would consider you a math guy and you have provided and offered plenty of VP stats on proper play and payout percentages. with that said, you mention above and on your vegas trip pictures, you sometimes play slots.  for someone who seems concerned about playing the highest payout VP machine, it seems inconsistent to play slots. once in a while (2-5%), i also play slots, just for a break, but i am less concerned about VP payout percentages than you.

I have full confidence that Vman can be an advantage player if given the necessary resources to do it. Most of the trip reports I see, it is more about soaking in the enjoyment that Vegas provides (other than the luxury shopping joints) at a great value using myVegas. If anything, it is very little slots from the reports I've looked at, that is discipline. I used to put bill after bill into a machine without winning.

Most of those nickel video poker games at short pay have less theoretical loss per hand than a full pay 9/6 DDB at quarters. So similar to Phil's cheap strategy, it is more about playing long time than trying to come out as a winner.

alpax, you and olds are the diplomats on this site. as opposed to me, you make your point w/out being offensive.  i enjoy vman posts and i was the first to defend him on the other thread regarding 'every girl'. i have no doubt he is a skilled VP player. but, he has posted many times about playing the best odds machines and making the best odds plays. he has pointed out better plays/machines to others. with that said, i just wonder how he justifies playing slot machines, where the best odds machines are likely lower odds than the worst VP machine. seems like a reasonable question, don't you think?

I might not have noticed the parts about playing the best machines, however I would not consider anything wrong or hypocritical with how Vman plays given he admits he is a flea in the casino's eyes and most of the time nickel machines are short pay. The folks he advises can possibly afford to play quarter/half dollar games for 5000 hands during a trip, there are more choices available for people stepping up in denomination in general. Vman has been to more gambling places than many to have this knowledge.

Slots are good to play time to time in between breaks from pushing multiple buttons and thinking on video poker, but in Vegas, twenty dollar bills get eaten alive without mercy even at 30 cents a spin

Aside from that, I personally do not criticize slot players since I enjoy it myself in the past.

As alpax says, my goal isn't always to maximize my financial return while playing.

Playing slots for small denominations are occasionally entertaining to me. But I definitely keep it to a minimum, because you're right, even the worst VP paytable is almost always better paying than a penny slot.   And yes, I point out better VP games, etc., because if you are playing video poker, you probably should play the better paytables (at least for the same variant) without a good reason not to if you believe the game is totally random with a standard deck of cards like I do.

I made a big deal over luvs jackpot because that "slot" is misleadingly displaying what would be a 99.52% paytable plus whatever you'd think that "match card" would be worth if you believe the machine behaved like VP is supposed to in Vegas, AC, Tunica, St. Louis, and many other places. Many people aren't aware of the difference, and I think it's a BS move obviously. If they would write some paytable that represented the payback within 1% or so, I wouldn't care nearly as much. Slots, I know I'm playing a bad game from a return standpoint. Although I really wish slot returns were buried in the help menus like some Australian states. Hell, it may help the health of VP if people saw the slot numbers. Not counting on that though.
