As alpax says, my goal isn't always to maximize my financial return while playing.
Playing slots for small denominations are occasionally entertaining to me. But I definitely keep it to a minimum, because you're right, even the worst VP paytable is almost always better paying than a penny slot. And yes, I point out better VP games, etc., because if you are playing video poker, you probably should play the better paytables (at least for the same variant) without a good reason not to if you believe the game is totally random with a standard deck of cards like I do.
thanks for answering. i also enjoy playing a small amount of slots. fun and a break from VP. i have welcomed and defended the help you offer. but, i think the first sentence of your post is most important and applies to many others, your goal is not always to maximize your financial return. this could account why some play games/machines that do not have the best odds. maybe they like the game, the location of the machine, maybe it is their lucky seat, who knows. i just think it is important for all to remember, the majority of us are recreational players, playing for fun and fully aware that over the long term, we are likely to lose. some may feel buying a coffee from starbucks is crazy, when you can pay less at the gas station. value is in the eye of the beholder.
