Prayers

Post by DaBurglar »

For the poor concert going victims in Las Vegas, victims of the most recent and ridiculous instance of the rights of gun owners Trumping the right of others to LIVE. My first and immediate thoughts are that they get the care they need and not suffer excessively. Please God, make this so.....

Now.....

I'm fine with gun ownership, but one thing that is not part of the 2nd amendment, and not what the founders intended, is the right to own 40, 50, 80 or 100 round clips or drum magazines. Nope sorry, not a right. There's only one reason to have such capacity which is to kill as many people as possible, not self defense. And yet what is the NRA stance on limiting or banning high capacity ammo mags? "Oh no! No sir!"

And before you delusional weekend warriors trip over yourselves trying to tell me how the perp of the Vegas concert slaughter wouldn't have been deterred by such a ban, let me respectfully invite you to take your crystal ball and stuff it, because making things illegal or banned, while not perfect, at least offers a chance that this BS will be lessened or limited.....a chance that the concert goers did not have.

Oh yeah one other thing... numerous people in the crowd were themselves armed....seems carrying and concealing is only good in a specific type scenario, not when some A!Hole has a automatic weapon and thousands of rounds in a high position overlooking a crowd of thousands. So much for the self righteous arrogant assertions that being armed provides protection....seems it's highly conditional.

Update:. Shooter just identified as a WHITE male early 60s.

Now given this is clearly an instance of Terrorism, domestic variety,do think this time they'll finally call it that? Think back to Dylan roof, Sandy Hook and many others where a white guy wiped out innocent people..

Totally agree with you and appreciate your thoughts on this.

Personally sick of all the "Thoughts & Prayers" from our government officials. How about some actual thoughts and action - something they just can't ever do even when this included school children. Horribly SAD beyond words....again....

Here is the latest:. 58 dead, and 515 injured....!!!! Unreal.... horrific and unreal.....

The shooter, Stephen paddock was 64 and from mesquite Nevada. He rented a room on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay and somehow.... SOMEHOW...brought at least ten automatic and semiautomatic rifles and tens of thousands of rounds into his room. He then smashed out his room window with a sledgehammer and thus had a perfect spot to massacre the crowd below. I don't even know where to begin with all this info and detail, and I bet many of you also feel the same!

Despicable. Gun restrictions must...MUST be severely tightened. It is just wrong for a civilian to have this kind of firepower. The second amendment did not and does not apply to this bullsht whatsoever...if someone wants to own a single automatic or semiautomatic rifles, they need to go thru the same checks and scrutiny as getting a driver's license, a mortgage, etc. And owning more than one such rifle is not something you can be allowed. Nope, no reason.

Furthermore, illegal use or possession of firearms should carry prison time of ten or more years.

Now all you second amendment Hawks, veterans, and erstwhile Patriots on this site who love also going to Vegas, imagine if you were on the strip or at the concert when this person did this...is your right to own your gun worth your life being snuffed out by a coward 2000 feet away?

Nevermind that.....what will this now do to all the casinos and hotels? Before you could walk in with anything.....now...?

So much for hotel security...

Why does any civilian need this many and type of guns? Gah, it's awful! Nauseating....

As Rachel Maddow pointed out tonite there is a gun show in LV almost every week. Reportedly the perp did not lack funds and had a sizable arsenal at home as well. I imagine we'll learn more about where exactly he got them but no one should be surprised at how many he was able to acquire.

Living in Las Vegas, our news stations have been on air with coverage since Sunday night, non stop.
A few interesting details have emerged: that the shooter was a high roller, video poker player, who often bet $100 per hand. He had stayed in that exact suite, courtesy of Mandalay Bay, multiple times before. He had recently gambled amounts ranging from $10K to $30K in a single day.

Not many video poker players at this level, I imagine. Waiting to hear if these details are all true.

One thing my father and I clash a lot over is his clinging to the "pro Gun Ownership" simplistic argument that  "THE ONLY WAY TO STOP A  BAD GUY with a GUN is a GOOD GUY WITH A GUN"..... this is such a weak, silly justification for NOT simply having the SAME amount of oversight for gun ownership in the USA that exists for motor vehicle licensing and ownership. The Las Vegas Incident, along with many of the other recent MASS Shooting Incidents illustrate precisely how simply allowing "anyone and Everyone" to carry a gun would NOT alleviate, prevent or even limit appreciably the amount of bloodshed and damage done by these disturbed individuals.      The victims in the crowd at Mandalay Bay would NOT have been benefited by having numerous sidearms for the obvious reason the killer was so far away, so concealed and had planned the evil deed so meticulously.   Unless there were numerous people in the crowd armed with sniper rifles with scopes who also had exceptional cover, there was nothing any of them could have done except what they ultimately did which was to flee.Take the infamous Aurora, Colorado cinema shooting at the premiere of Dark Knight Rises a few years back......are you honestly going to advocate that the movie goers should all have been armed so that they all could shoot it out in the DARK?    Also, imagine if there had been multiple people armed when the assault began, and a shootout ensued;  while it certainly is POSSIBLE someone could have gotten in a fortuitous early shot and taken out the Perpetrator, that scenario is extremely unlikely and certainly not something anyone could count on.... Does anyone here see how this would complicate any subsequent investigation, AND also could easily lead to additional victims of so-called "friendly fire" which would further lead to nightmare scenarios of victims accusing other victims, etc etc.All I'm saying is there simply should be a diligent effort to enforce EXISTING regulations at both the Federal and state levels with any loopholes or gaps being closed immediately, so that NO ONE who is a convicted felon or otherwise disqualified can legally purchase firearms, and CERTAINLY not stockpile them the way the Las Vegas perp did.    Anyone else who is QUALIFIED and responsible enough absolutely should be able to purchase firearms at reasonable amounts and within reasonable time frames.
