It's now been a very long time since I was last in Vegas' downtown area...has anyone out there played recently Downtown Vegas?!?! Where is the best video poker these days in terms of both variety and paytables in downtown?

VPFree2 is a good source. MSS seems to attract a lot of knowledgeable tourists. They offer scratch cards for every quad.

I think my opinion of VPFree was skewed by the discrepancy I noticed several years back with what they had listed at the AC casinos and what actually was there, but if you say the Vegas listings for downtown are accurate I'll let it be my primary guide.

I didn't realize MSS still had the scratchers going for quads!

The 4 Queens has some good VP right at the bar near Fremont St. 9-6 jacks and either good DB or DDB,can't remember.

Of course they still have the full pay 10-7 DB along the wall near Magnolias restaurant. (last time I was there anyway)

Main ST and the Cal each have DB full pay.

They have really come around the past few years.MY VERY FIRST TRIP TO VEGAS:   Late Spring 1992, as a newly minted college graduate who had just started his first Job in Los Angeles barely 3 months prior, making pretty good money, I made my first 3 day weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) get away and stayed at the Plaza (known then as JACKIE GAUGHAN'S PLAZA)  I had no clue at all what I was doing vis-a-vis the video poker available back then, all I remember is it was still coin operated so you played at the pace of dropping five quarters into the slot at a time on the "Draw Poker" games.....after five rolls of quarters my fingers were numb, so I gathered all my received coins out of the hopper, put them in one of those ubiquitous plastic buckets that every casino had with its name & logo, and took it over to one of those centrally located booths with the coin counters.    She dumped my coins in, and my original 5 rolls (50 bucks) has shrunk by $2.75 so I cashed out 47.25!   I actually had fun with the whole first experience and still recall every detail about that first session, as well as the entire three day first time in Vegas experience!Back then in May of 1992, Vegas was still a semi gritty yet down to earth place, the only real "mega resort" then was the Mirage (Caesars and the Desert Inn still tried to claim to be as sophisticated as the Mrage even though they were still "OLD" in everything and every aspect.....the Excalibur was a pretty impressive sight at that point in history but was too "Disney" for the serious, young hip crowd;  The LUXOR Pyramid, initially a controversial project, had started to take shape but it would be another year really before it was near completion (It opened in October of 1993), but ultimately any controversy of any building projects were dwarfed and forgotten back then thanks to the infamous Stratosphere debacle courtesy of Bob "Stupefying" Stupak;  and Downtown, where I stayed & played, had not yet closed off Fremont street, it was still a wide open traffic throughfare which made it treacherous at night if you stumbled out of the casinos or bars drunk!   )Man, those were the days......and I really do long for that OLD Vegas before it exploded after 1996......I wish it could have just frozen right Before Bellagio changed everything, when Monte Carlo and NY-NY had just opened and we were just getting used to those wonderful properties.....they started banging out the big places so fast you never got to enjoy one before another one came along and "trumped" it.....still through it all, Downtown remained a hearkening location to the OLD VEGAS.

The accuracy of the vpFREE2 listings is totally dependent on the diligence of a volunteer casino monitor, or the willingness of others to submit comments when there have been unreported changes to a casino's vp inventory.   So, yes, there can be outdated information on vpFREE2.

I don't know all the downtown casinos well enough to comment on the accuracy of the information listed for them. I am, however, very familiar with Main Street Station, and believe the listing for it is accurate.

And, yes, the scratch cards at MSS for natural quads (and higher) are alive and well. They add about 0.4% to the game return for bonus poker.

   It is the best free source I know of.
The nice thing about Downtown is the casinos are right on top of each other, for the most part.

   As far as the accuracy of the site, it seems pretty up to date in the major towns and cities of Nevada. Can't speak for elsewhere.

DaBurglar, the thing I remember most about the old coin droppers was the dirty hands you got scooping those coins.

I was at the old Fitzgerald downtown one time and did not have any small bills so I put a 100 dollar bill in. I thought it was a .50 cent VP game and was wrong it was a 5 cent machine. The machine was a full pay deuces and I was going nowhere fast but really did not want to cash out 2000 nickles. I did eventually and of course had to get a machine fill as it ran out. Then had to carry about 10 pounds of coins to cash out. My hands were black. Yes those were the days!

That machine by the way was on the 2nd floor near the bar and had perhaps the best return in all of Vegas at over 101%.
