Haven’t been to A/C since the early90’s, but we did enjoy it from when it opened until then. I was at Trump Plaza once when it was new. Thought it was beautiful. We never strayed even a block from the Boardwalk. One exception. To drive over to Harra’s Marina. We liked it there a lot. Used to go 3 or 4 times a year. I drove through the surrounding area once and only once. Reminded me a lot of parts of Bridgeport, Ct where I worked for 35 years. Such a shame. I am very lucky to have survived Bridgeport. Already posted over the years some of those stories. Once the casinos opened in Ct, there was no reason to travel a tough 4 and 1/2 hour ride to A/C.

I used to go to Bridgeport Jai alai 25 or so years ago with family . We really enjoyed it ! also Milford Jai alai . I was actually trying to learn the game at American amateur Jai Alai , they were trying to get more american players into the game. I was not good enough ! Quite a dangerous sport as the pelota has been clocked at 188 mph ! the pelota , ball is hard as a rock ! not like raquet ball soft rubber . People have been killed getting hit with the pelota !

and, people have gotten killed getting hit with the variance of Triple Double Bonus...which at times has been clocked at much greater speeds (in $ph).

Similar opinion. I was reluctant to stray from the Boardwalk. But now I really like Harrah's with its full pay opportunities and clientele. I had an unexpected 4.5 hour ride home last trip, though. Traffic snarled at least a mile with a stalled vehicle blocking a lane. Sat two hours. Miserable weather and $400 winnings given back. It was a brutal trip!

It’s fine on a normal traffic day coupled with a win.

Any area around a casino is dangerous with the exception of isolated casinos like the Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods etc. Anyone remember O' Flynn's steakhouse at Trump Worlds Fair? Absolutely the best in AC when it was open.

I hadn't intended the thread to devolve into a "AC is unsafe" one, but i should've guessed being that the Plaza has been the poster child for the bad times of the 2000-2010's. That being what it is, I think what you are referring to is the CRDA- Casino ReDevelopment Authority which was supposed to funnel levies back into the surrounding areas. Given the poor leadership, lack of oversight and the misappropriation of funds, it's obvious that more could have been done.

Also, back when Revel opened up- some privateers- most notably Shaquille O'Neil, had plans for an uptown revitalization project, similar I believe to the Walk outlets? Unfortunately, the downturn and subsequent closure of Showboat & Revel in 2014 scrapped those plans. I think that some combination of funding needs to occur for significant progress going forward.

I find the inside of a casino to be much much more dangerous.
