It was almost impossible to be in Atlantic City this weekend without hearing rumor after rumor about the possible closing of Showboat. Some employees claim to have seen a memo with the actual date of the rumored closing -- September 16 -- just days after Miss America 2015 is crowned. Other employees admit to quietly looking for new positions and some already have left -- including one senior executive who moved on a month ago. Could be just coincidences, but there are other signs which point to a closing that I'm not at liberty to reveal. Keep in mind, too, that we have been hearing rumors of Showboat's sale for years.

It doesn't take a Rhodes scholar, though, to realize that the Atlantic City market is oversaturated. There are simply too many casinos and not enough customers. One or more needs to close -- most likely an underperformer like Trump Plaza. However, if Caesars does close Showboat I give management credit for "taking one for the team" -- by "team" I mean Atlantic City, the other Atlantic City casinos and the players who gamble in AC. While I hate to see dedicated casino workers lose jobs -- that's not good either, Atlantic City simply can't sustain its current business model. Somebody has to go. In terms of Caesars Entertainment, it's unlikely it would shutter its flagship casino, Caesars; Bally's just invested more than $6 million in casino upgrades and will open two new restaurants next month; and Harrah's is building a multimillion dollar conference center and also is opening a new restaurant next month.

Federal and New Jersey laws require 60 days' notice when a business terminates its operation, so if something is, indeed, going to happen in September, look for an official announcement next month.

Place the blame squarely into the lap of Chris christie and all the other experts of cognitive dissonance who INSISTED on pushing and prodding and cajoling to have REVEL open several summers back........worst friggin thing ever, to put a HUGE monstrosity of overdone halfbaked opulence into a market that was still shrinking.......needless to say the one casino MOST impacted by Revel's own paltry shwoing was the casino closest to it, the neighboring Showboat at that end of the boardwalk!Unfriggin-believable, that all these "experts" and "leaders" and decisionmakers can still blunder this horribly and make a seemingly hopeless situation even WORSE!!!!   I hope Governor McfatF*ck and his "advisors" are proud......Why cant they at least TRY......T R Y ... the idea I keep floating, to draw back some or perhaps even A LOT of the lost market share, by loosening up all the games, advertising the bollocks out of the fact that they have done just that, and give it 6 months (or more) for people to come back and re-discover the whole AC scene and experience.......how could it possibly HURT??? or make things worse than they already are?     They will never EVER see the profits they once did......BUT, they certainly can (re)-generate enough business to make SURVIVAL more feasible and prevent any more closures or job loses on the scale where a entire casino evaporates......Someone show me how this is wrong.......

In case anyone has forgotten......I fuggin LUV LOVE  L O V E  Atlantic City!!!      It is truly my favorite place to visit, play, hang out, relax and eat peanut brittle.THAT is why I....."bytch"....so much about all the many things that are wrong with it......things which, in my opinion and in my heart, I know they could fix or at least make big problems into smaller ones.        And yet despite all my "butching" I keep going back because.......I LUV IT!!!!   I still do, despite all its flaws.......it still has great appeal to me....SO if any of you cannot understand why and how I feel what I feel and think what I think......two eyes, two ears, two noses........TOO BADThis is not "the Doris forum".......and last I checked, New Jersey was not, in fact, owned operated and ruled by someone named "Doris"......And if Francois can show up and trash the Good ol' USA, then I certainly am entitled to uncork a few potshots at the Walking Human Political Cartoon known as Chris Christie.....and no matter what voters like Doris think, these last semi-disastrous few years in AC are indeed the Governor's doing;  it has been HIS agenda, perpetrated by HIS people chosen by HIM.......it is quite well known that Christie lobbied HARD and LONG to get Revel up and running when it did, he extended to the original owner-operator(s) a lot of tax and business breaks, all done in the face of and in direct contrast to what opponents and other experts were warning would be the consequences we are now in fact seeing unfold......The Truth Hurts

I am not going to get involved in the DB/Doris back and forth, I will just say that if the two posters were one in the same, I would be able to pick up on it. Basing this on 35 years of experience prior to retirement in trouble shooting and various kinds of investigations. That is all I am going to say about it.
