Harrahs AC with DB

Post by jetermacaw »

Had a great time with DB yesterday he really is a nice guy. Had a better time on my favorite QQ machine. Playing 5 hand was dealt 4 QQs and 2 natural 4oak. DB must have brought me some luck because we all know there is no skill involved when being dealt 4oak. Posting just one pic.

Easy as ABC. Congratulations. Okay, this is where at max bet you get to add two cards to complete a quad. Tricky stuff. Exciting when it happens. What are we looking at,  $100 worth of winnings among the five hands? The clutter alone is intimidating, not to mention the variance.

I spent several days in AC (wednesday feb 3 thru sunday feb7, making it home just in time for kickoff)      The absolute highlight of the trip was meeting Jeter, which I discuss in the other thread in this section of the forum.Prior to, and then After meeting up with Jeter on Thursday Afternoon, I had several poker sessions (1 tourney and several cash game stints) punctuated with numerous Video Poker "mini-sessions" (one to two hours max with a 3 hour "finale") which amounted to my ABSOLUTE WORST WORST WORST results to date in AC in terms of sheer futility and ridiculously bad results.  I actually was literally dumbfounded by what I witnessed these last few days in AC, but more on that in a second....First, the normal news and stuff:  I wound up down about $150 bucks total from my OVERALL live Poker play results from the 4 days.   The tournament I entered ($85 fee) was at Golden Nugget and I did not finish in the money.   In the cash game sessions I played (at Borgata, Tropicana and Harrahs with blinds ranging from $1-2, to $2-5, plus about one hour total at a table with $3-6 blinds!!!) I finished down a total of $65 but that was from about 20 hours of table time!   When you factor in all the dealer tips from the pots I won, plus tips for drinks (cherry cokes and water for me), I pretty close broke even ......BUT I did earn over 40 comp dollars among the casinos I played at, and with the 6 hours I logged at Borgata playing $2-5 blind NL Holdem, added to four plus hours from last trip.... I earned one (1) free night, Sun-Thursday next month (March)!  I was not expecting that so that was a nice surprise. But now the outrageously bad news......From the time I arrived Wednesday afternoon until I met Jeter on Thursday Afternoon, I lost about 300 bucks playing video poker, mostly in dribs and drabs of a half hour here, hour there, etc, at Resorts (mostly), TAJ and Tropicana and simply did not hit a g_dd_mn thing at all!   NOTHING......not a quad in sight, and missed virtually every flush draw.   I played mostly 8/5 Bonus poker (99.2%) at Resorts and the one machine at the TAJ which has it,  and could not get anything, to the point that I actually had almost NO return percentage simply because I launched mostly duds....seriously, I had extended runs of 19, 20, 21 or more hands in a row that yielded NOTHING...not only did I quickly blow through 300 bucks in very short order, I earned almost NO points or comp dollars or ANYTHING in doing so!   Then I went over to HArrahs around 2:15 pm Thursday and it took me a while to actually get there thanks to the Jitney driver not being too comfortable driving in the rain, which happened to start just as I departed for Harrahs to meet Jeter.   I finally get to Harrahs just before 3 pm (Jeter had said he would be eating & drinking in the BAR at M&S from 4-5 pm so I had a little time to spare).....I noticed the 25 cent DDB progressive at Harrahs was well over 1400 bucks (and AWAK was over $545) so I said "It cannot get any worse so why not?"     I then proceeded to play LIGHTNING mode, my absolute fastest mode possible, trying to get in the maximum number of hands played between now and when I quit to go meet Jeter in an hour.      I launched over 1900 hands from 3pm until around 4:15 pm, when I looked at my watch and realized I better get over to the other side of Harrahs where Mccormick and schmid is located!      My Tally?    I lost another 350 bucks in that 75 minutes/1900 hands of pure crap.   I had 2 quads (both were me turning a pair of 9s into four nines)...I missed EVERY other shot, hit nothing of note, and thus, went into my meeting with Jeter in not the very best frame of mind!  (Still, 1900 hands with a 350 dollar loss, this amounted to a whopping 85% return, which actually was my BEST session in quite some time.)But I think I managed to HIDE it well while I talked and got to know the guy, and his overall outgoing and gregarious personality quickly made me forget the travesty(ies) i had thus far witnessed in the last 36 hours.     THEN, as Jeter shared his various video poker stories (good and bad) I became revitalized and reinvigorated.   When he recounted all the royals he has had over the last couple months, and Years, at Harrahs, along with his multi quad days (I think he said he had 20 in one session!),  well i was convinced that if I somehow just stuck it out, my luck would turn.    I enjoyed the man's company enough to renew my efforts at video poker (while still emphasizing my real LIVE poker play) as the opportunities presented themselves. After my Tournament loss at Golden Nugget, i tried a couple hours worth on THEIR 99% machines and lost another 250.....again, NOTHING was forthcoming.Friday I spent playing mostly Poker, but did spend exactly one hour playing yet another 8/5 bonus poker machine at Resorts.   Lost another 110 bucks....Saturday, I split my time almost equal between live poker (3 hours) and video poker (3 hours playing the machines at Trump Taj.)    the Taj has a wide variety of games between 96-99%;  and since devoting myself only to the 99%+ games was not working and the TAJ has a smorgasboard of all kinds of gimmick games as well as normal ones, I figured "HOW MUCH WORSE CAN IT GET?"     Inspired by Jeter, I took 1000 bucks and WENT FOR IT, starting at around 8 pm Saturday night, I vowed to play until I was way way ahead and had recouped a crap load of all my previous losses!Amazingly, over the course of 3 hours, the answer to that rhetorical question above was "MUCH MUCH WORSE."     While ultimately avoiding the gimmick games and sticking instead to the usual "normal' single line games like DDB, Somehow I managed a return rate of around 45%.......I lost nearly 700 bucks on a total coin in of around $1280!!!    Playing very, VERY slow due to my being dumbfounded by what was unfolding in front of my eyes (hand after hand after hand....after hand....after hand ....of nothing;  missing on everything), my total coin in during this 3 hour massacre at Taj was absurdly low,  reflecting the fact that I only played around 1100 hands total in this last 3 hours (less than HALF my normal rate of fire!)       TOTAL VP loss over 4 days playing in my "SUBDUED" mode:  1700 bucks......yep, no sh*t.Please note:  for any of you who might even be inclined to NOT believe me, I again offer to gladly escort ANYONE who wants to accompany me to the various AC casinos I played at, and verify my numbers  (YES it is totally possible to do this!)    I will gladly pay for your time with a nice meal and cab fare to and fro as needed......I only wish somehow I could have had a witness to the atrocity that just would not stop over the four days, made worse by the fact that, as I said, I was not even really SERIOUSLY PLAYING or CONCENTRATING on video poker!!!!!     More to come in a different thread.
