AC trip MAy 5 thru May 10

Post by DaBurglar »

I was in AC may 5 thru 10.   My trip started out at Harrahs on Cinco De Mayo with Jeter at Harrahs.    Jeter bought dinner at M&S (we avoided all the pig out opportunities and simply had a normal sized dinner.......Jeter is well known and liked at M&S so I enjoyed my time with him, and I hope I can return the favor some day with a nice steak at Roberts or Gallaghers, if I can get him out of Harrahs.)I played a little bit after dinner at Harrahs, joining Jeter with a little QQ multi line play, and I did ok, finished up and hit some quads.I then played a lot of poker over the next few days, tournaments and cash games at BAllys and Borgota, and finished about 300 bucks up.....not great but not bad either......for the time I spent I would have liked more to show for it, but its getting tough to play poker in AC as the game is attracting more and more young sharks who are playing with absolute wild abandon, almost to the point where strategy is gone and it is just a live version of video poker.     I welcomed my Mother on Mothersday along with my Brother, and spent Sunday & Monday entertaining them.    I played some video poker at the TAJ, Ballys and Resorts.   I did well at the TAJ, broke even at Ballys and (once again) had my arse handed to me at Resorts.    Resorts video poker is now on my absolute worst list, and it is no surprise since they are owned by Mohegan Sun who does not recognize video poker players as valuable customers to begin with......their games reflect that.     All in all, I think I still finished up about 50 bucks total at video poker, but still, resorts killed me......I have to say this about Borgota......I long have had the impression they were the "creme" of AC.....I think that impression is driven not by Borgota's exceptional quality, but by the absolute awful quality of everyone else in AC (primarily the boardwalk properties.)  Borgota looks great by comparison, but there is the rub......For one thing Borgota is now the SMOKIEST of all AC casinos.....maybe its due to the fact it has the most people in it, but either way it is downright nasty.    Also, their restaurant schedules during the week are really absurd.....monday thru thursday, at least two or three of their main restaurants are CLOSED for a couple days during this time, with some overlap of course, but still, it is really annoying for people staying there during monday thru thursday......I was really annoyed by the Buffet being shuttered tuesday AND wednesday!    Borgota's check in desk during the peak time of 2 pm thru 6 pm is excruciatingly slow too......again, its partly due to the fact they have MORE customers than the other AC hotels, but still, they need to either hire more people or somehow streamline the process.     Also, their 150 dollar a night "deposit" for rooms is ridiculous......fortunately it only stays on credit card for 48 hours, but still, the most any other place I have ever stayed is a 100 dollar "hold" for 2 nights!    Taj mahal only puts a 35 dollar hold per night on rooms......I think Harrahs AC might now be on equal footing with Borgota in terms of being "the best AC now has to offer".......ANd let me end (for now) with this note:  Borgota's video poker machines are full of dud spewing money eating black holes.   I was dumbfounded by how awful the machines were in the limited play I experienced, and the more substantial play I witnessed, during my time there.    I'll post more later on........my next trip to AC is June 2.

Still sounds like a decent trip and good company DB. As to dud streaks, I have never seen any longer ones than this year. Then out of the blue you will hit a decent hand like a quad for instance on job and it still won't pay for the dud streak you just had. It doesn't surprise me that the Resorts play is awful since they are partnered up with Mohegan. You may have caught my latest thread on Royalless play again. Reluctantly, I am planning a scouting mission to Foxwoods soon. If I do switch over there, I will let you know since I know you tend to go there for poker etc sometimes. Either way, good luck on the next adventure. PS. read KO's thread response where he talks about the versions of rngs and percentages. I also have to do some reading myself on pseudo rngs which I know exist too. I am just not sure in what capacity or where they are used. Two different old time and retiring slot attendants at Mohegan said they were used there. I have no proof of course. Just my horrible statistics.

Borgata's video poker machines are full of dud spewing money eating
black holes. I was dumbfounded by how awful the machines were in the
limited play I experienced, and the more substantial play I witnessed,
during my time there.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Uh oh. Cautionary tale if I ever heard one. Saddened to hear that Borgata VP has gone so far downhill! It sounds just like my Harrah's experience. I sure don't miss all those obnoxious couples at B Bar either. What PITAs.

I absolutely played my ass off at Caesars on Sunday and after all the sweating, anxiety and agony I still walked away two dollars poorer after the second quad! Playing so soon after a Progressive reset is always like the canary in the coal mine for me, a bad portent.

The only way I can stay even or better on job or deuces wild is to bet the amount needed to be even if a quad hits on job and if the quad deuces hit on deuces wild. The hard part is staying at bet 1 on a nice hot streak which is rare but does happen. On the other hard like in your case above, I bet you would have been ahead if you kept track of how much you needed to bet just to be even when the quad hit on job. Once in awhile and luckily not very often, none will hit that day and you will lose. In fact when that happens you would lose no matter how you bet that day. Most days though upping your bet to 2 or at most 3 on job will keep you even or better. I am just playing deuces wild now, but following the same rules for when quad deuces hit. Now in that game, quite often you will not hit the deuces that day, unless you are playing a multi line game. Luckily for me, that game is available at Mohegan Sun for as little as 3 cents a line on spin poker and there are nickel machines that pay 800 for the Royal for just a nickel bet. The downside is the paytable which is under 97%. I have to play a dollar machine on spin poker to get the same 800 for bet 1 with a better paytable, but at least the paytable is 98.8 percent for the Bonus Deuces Wild game.

I knew I had to max bet just to wind up in the neighborhood, so I did. Thankful I got it, but due to prior losing, it still pulled me up two bucks short. I can't even get into the mentality of nickel games. Still basking in the $1,000 RF glow so no panic just yet. But I am now bypassing Bally's. Small screens, crappy clientele, got RF there for the AC bucket list. I'll miss the Latina waitress. She's not in my section, but always a whiplash experience.
