So they will be spending about 500 million to re-brand the facility, sounds like alot until the article says that they paid 50 million for the property.
I hope Hard Rock re-invigorates the Atlantic City area.
Edited to add: Thanks for posting this Jim.

Talking to some of the local people. Carl Icon really let the building go to ruin.

The balloons in netting awaiting their drop at nearby Resorts look pretty cool. I'd love to see the northern boardwalk back in gear, at least in the new normal.

I just had lunch at HRC. I was upset that the menu lacked items from the online version. Waitress told me that they shortened the menu, a survival mode strategy! She said all I had to do was ask and I would receive. It's a hassle to inconvenience patrons like this. But I saw their point. I'm sure the Taj was a huge feeder for them. I'm sure that Hard Rock will do a job worthy of the $500M investment! Purchase was cheap, but what a fixer upper!

Jim, thanks for the updates! It will indeed be a good thing once the Hard Rock opens as a new property in AC, especially so that the iconic steel pier does not also become a casualty of the ineptitude that permeated AC for the past decade!Regarding the comments people have been making about how decrepit the TAJ had become and how much of a "fixer upper" it truly is/was.....you people don't even realize just how totally extensive the decay and aging was! The TAJ was literally crumbling, and falling apart, to the point where maintaining basic functions was compromised. The roof/ceiling in the CASINO was a skillet and anytime a snowstorm or rainstorm hit it was a mess, with plastic covering a multitude of machines and areas in the casino and elsewhere.THIS all was the fault of Donald Trump.....after he built the TAJ using junk bonds and massive amounts of other debt, he was in bankruptcy once the recession of 1991 hit, a little more than a year after the TAJ's (not so)"Grand" opening.....subsequently, after being bailed out in bankruptcy court (the first of several times) and managing to survive and recover, Trump NEVER put anymore money into the Taj for renovations or even basic maintaining from 1992 thru his final bankruptcy shenanigans in 2009 when he lost control of the TAJ for good. Donald Trump essentially became a slum lord as owner of the TAJ as he perpetually refused to fund major upkeep and maintenance, and during the last few years (2005 - 2008) just before the final great recession which caused him to lose control in Bankruptcy, Trump was at odds with both the other casino companies and the city of AC itself for allowing the TAJ to become a pathetic spectacle....But that was the essence of this man's "business genius".....he literally looted his own companies, regularly refused to pay vendors in full (if at all), and practiced open racial discrimination in the hiring and staffing of his properties and companies....it was a open secret that Trump's casinos never had African Americans working in any position of authority or responsibility, and the stories abound of many times, when Trump would be visiting the Taj and the casino management would literally have to "hide" any African American dealers or security guards or servers etc. When Carl Icahn took the property over and saved it from going completely belly up, he was not prepared for the extensiveness of the many needs and areas requiring work.....but he was going to give it a shot and was prepared to dump another 100-150 million into it if he could have gotten the employee Union to play ball....instead the Union leadership sabotaged everything and everyone in a pointless and arrogant display of fake power.Maybe it was for the best though, if the Hard Rock pulls off something special.....I'm hoping for it to happen.

Burglar you seem like a nice guy, but I think most people probably agree. The political rants etc have been a little heavy handed lately. Most of us come here to get away from those sorts of discussions and just talk about a hobby that we enjoy.
