Re: Sports Betting

Post by FAA »

I am likely the only forum member to personally experience AC's inaugural sports betting Sunday. I was at Ocean for three hours and focused on the close Giants-Jaguars game. The even closer Steelers-Browns tie was on the other large screen on the main wall. It was absolute bedlam. I was lucky enough to have a Patriots fan claim me in his party, sparing me eviction. It felt like feeding time at the zoo. I expected a monkey to swing overhead on a vine at any moment. Wagering has turned these men into rabid beasts. I could only imagine the scene at the apt named Wild Wild West between Bally's and Caesars. It surely lived up to its nickname. Praying that we are all spared this cruel vice.

Just read an article that said the AC casinos with sports betting are seeing significant increased revenue so far from patrons wagering since betting first became legal and it's about to literally go through the proverbial roof now that football is in full swing (NFL and NCAA)!

It's on record as far back as 2011, not long after I joined the website, that I posted one way for AC to revive its sinking fortunes at the time was to institute sports betting (as did many other people including governor donut dip)...of course, at the time, the archaic opposition still was staunchly in place to prevent exactly what we now have in place!!!

Better late than never, and this apparently now means that the new casinos really have a solid fighting chance to not only survive the winter but also survive indefinitely long term... everyone else should Thrive!!!

Elixir served. Based on one casino experience, the town is abuzz. These addicts in waiting are packing these vice dens like it's NYE in Times Square. Got to check those investments. I fret over the fallout. Health care providers will thrive. I tell ya, doc, they just couldn't convert any third downs. So I went for both Sunday night games. They shot blanks too. Monday .500, so I basically busted. What's my copay, btw?

Said I was going to run with Mike Francesa's Friday NFL picks (3 games) all year based on his record the last 10 years or so. Hasn't started out good as he went 1 and 2 the first 3 weeks. Still about even cash wise due to the bonus that Fan duel and Draft Kings gave to open accounts, but it now crunch time. Pick it up Mikey!

My rationale is to retain my pure love of the games by not having a financial stake in their outcomes. Exception: I will likely lay down some cash on the SB due to its sheer popularity.

Legalized sports betting will not be a windfall for many states who enact some version of it moving forward. Taxes and fees that will be added in will reduce the house take and this would be made up by adjusting the odds or the spread. For example; Illinois is only forecast to add $100 million a year to their state coffers, a mere pittance compared to the billions of dollars in debt the state is carrying.

Nor will it be quick to get up and running as few states have laws and regulations in place and ready to go.

Bookies will still be around after legalized sports betting is up and running.
The Associated Press recently (this week) published an article saying that most states' sports gambling revenue has missed estimates. In some cases, GREATLY missed estimates.

Rhode Island had expected to take in 1 million a month, their actual take? $50,000.00 a month so far. West Virginia takes in only 25% of the monthly tax revenues it had projected, 50% in both Mississippi and Pennsylvania.

So much for those windfalls so far.....

Like projected casino windfalls in general. It’s always sunny in a legislature.
Reviewing my summer post, I succumbed to the hype and made four NFL bets this season (0-4). Casinos must be my personal cancer.
