It was nice to log those dividends while they lasted. But my dud ETFs were overwhelming those gains. Chinese ETF lost 25%. Treading water for three months. What a year. First I narrowly missed getting run over. Now I just miss the falling knife of a massive sell off. Today was another loser. Advisor cheerfully noted that I am up 5% YTD. That’s little consolation moving forward.

Up 5.26% on regular stuff, but my IRA Fidelity Contra Fund is up somewhere in the 17 percent range for the year. Unfortunately, any unrealized gains have already been squandered on Vp. 😬 and then some

I only do one trading play now due to my age and market jitters on overvaluation and the world situation in general. I am not suggesting anybody do this, but so far so good for me. Prudential Financial. Most recently got out at 108. Should have got back in at 97, but had fears and still do of a crash. Already at 100 today up from 97. I am still going to do a wait and see for a bit. If I screw up, in the meantime on buying again and no gain, I just sit back and collect the 4.6 percent dividend. My financial advisor is myself. That way, I have nobody to blame but me. Edited to fix the usual typos. Usually don’t even catch them all. My financial advisor says I really should quit VP, or at least run out the free play then take a long break. I’m listening, but doing us another constant struggle.

V poker is one of your main hobby s as far as I can tell. Hard to replace for me as I approach 100 years on earth , a slight exaduration , lol ! If u would play pickem as your main game 99.9531% with player club and promos , achev awards ect. over TIME should show a profit . I reiterate , OVER TIME ,like year over year. U can play other games as I did when I was welcome there ! I know , I know u r not crazy for pickem! in the very short term pickem volatility is very high as u r aware! Infinitely more important , Eternal life through JESUS CHRIST as I believe you are aware ! Very, very. short time for all on this earth for all !!

Right again AP as usual. I may just relearn pickem when and if I dip back in. In the big picture. When we were young, it felt like we were on a slow moving Boxcar. In our 30’s and 40’s a Diesel engine. Now, it feels like we are on the Japanese Bullet train that opened in 1964. I hope to see the bright white light at the end of the tunnel too. I think for now, rather than slam the savings again, I will do a bit of day/week trading and if I can build up a decent stake, head up to either Fox or Mohegan for pickem. I do like the idea of a 600 buck quad. If I did the math right, a quad comes along every 2,359 hands long term. Since I usually play 5,000 hands or so a session, there’s a decent chance I could hit one.
A very good friend of ours recently passed away just shy of 90 years young. Two years ago she insisted I take her Angel medal from Sicily she had carried since she was 5. I added that to my own Guardian Angel Medal I always carry. Now today a US Marine Toys for Tots medal came. I may not have any change in my pocket, but I will never be broke carrying these.

By the way f.w. does NOT have full pay pickem afaik. Excellent analogy how life seems to accelerate over time !! I concur with that assessment !!

On the other hand if you and some friends decide to head up to FW, I will definitely head up there.
I had a very good friend gone about 30 years now that rode the rails in Boxcars from his early teens until his early 20s right through the Great Depression. He was right off the boat from Sicily and learned more about this country and people than you could ever get in a history book. He was very talented and good to and with people and when he finally settled down and married, had children etc, he had built a very successful Jewelry business. I had a few history lessons about this Country from him myself, stuff you would never be taught in school. His son and I were good friends as well and he followed in his dad’s footsteps in the same business
By the way, he was a great poker player and when A/C first opened, cleaned up pretty good on the early video poker offerings and comps.

Getting back to what this original thread was about driving, my friend would think nothing of driving from Ct to A/C, play, maybe stay overnight, then leave super early and drive straight through to Florida to do a little Jewelry business and catch some Jai Alai in Dania Florida He also had a knack to read the players and from what I remember, did well with that game too. He woud also drive straight through back to Ct. Always drove a new Caddy and never would buy foreign after what he experienced while serving in the war. All the returning Vet’s I grew up
with as I went to school with their kids, would never buy foreign as well. Many would never even think of changing brands either back then. They might switch from Plymouth to Dodge or Chrysler, but never to Chevy or Ford. Same for the Ford and Chevy guys.
